Survey Analysis of Labour force in Industries

• The present working labour force 80,000.

• ITI, Daman had conducted a survey which reveals that 80% of the workers were without any certification.

• It has also been observed that out of the total labour force in Daman only 20% consist of local labour and

• 80% is migrant labour from neighboring and various other states..

Skill Gap in Industry

• The industrial representatives viewed that short term training courses were required for skilled jobs in the following sectors:

• in packaging, plastic processing, electrical wiremen, fitter turner, hospitality, garment, fisheries etc.

• Thus there is requirement for organizing large number of vocational technical training development programs .

• To fulfill the demand of skilled workers, technicians for the above industries five institute are available in Daman and Diu:

• The Industrial Training Institute, Daman was established in the year 1978 by the then erstwhile Govt. of Goa, Daman & Diu.

• In the year of 2002 New Complex for ITI- Daman was constructed at Ringanwada , Nani Daman.

• The Industrial Training Institute, Diu was established in the year 1980 with proper infrastructure.

Skill Development Initiative Scheme (Based on Modular Employable Scheme)

introduced at ITI, Daman in November 2009 and is a Vocational Training Provider of this Scheme.

• started courses for Information & communication Technology, Garment manufacturing, Electrical & Hospitality Sectors among the 200 courses.

• More than 300 candidates have registered themselves for the first batch. 105 candidates are admitted for different courses.

Registration of trainees in MES

• Local N.G.O. Safal have also trained 147 trainees in skills such as Beautician, Computer Hardware & Networking, Fashion designing, Hospitality & Soft skills.

• The Second batch of 57 trainees was started in 2011 and the Assessment is awaited.

• Total 305 trainees are registered with VTP, Daman for direct assessment of skills.

Apprenticeship Training Scheme

• Apprenticeship training was started in 1994 and is also being carried out by ITI, Daman at various industries around Daman.

• Trainees of ITI Daman , Diu & also from Gujarat state are admitted for this training after completion of ITI Courses.

• and are provided training & stipend by the industries.

• The objective of the Scheme is to provide live/industrial training to the I.T.I. pass out trainees of different trades.

Job Opportunities

• Fitter trade is in great demand and trainees are recruited by Shipping Corporation of India and paid up to Rs.35,000/- per month.

• Also the fitter trade trainees are demanded by local industries like Enercon India Ltd., Kabra Extension Ltd.

• Refrigeration & Air Cond. Mech. Trainees are demanded by Blue Star Ltd. and only ITI, Daman provides the training in the surrounding region.

• Training in plastic is in great demand by Plastic Industries.

Job Opportunities

• The Trainees are Known as Technician or Supervisor after completing the said Diploma.

• More than 60% of the Students take the Admissionfor Degree courses in near by states like Gujrat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh.

• Highly demand of the students in industries in the field of Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Chemical engineering from Baroda to Vapi. Essar Steel Ltd., GNFC, IPCL, Reliance etc.are demanding more Diploma Students.

• The Technical Training Institute ,Diu was established in1975.

• Both the Institutes are affiliated with Gujarat Secondary & Higher Secondary Education Board , Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
