Spring Musical 2019: “Aladdin Kids”
On Tuesday 2nd April and Wednesday 3rd April we held three performances of “Aladdin Kids”.
The show had a cast and crew of 105 children, that’s almost a quarter of our school population involved
in some way! We had children from KS1 and KS2 singing, dancing and acting; they truly shone and
showed real star quality!
Over three performances, we entertained nearly 250 people! It was great to see Year 7 children from
KHS come back to watch one of the performances. We also enjoyed sharing one of our performances
with children from the Village School.
A big thank you to Mrs McNeil, Mrs Palinda, Mr Ennis and Mrs McGrath for all their hard work in creating
a magical experience for so many to enjoy. Also, a big thank you to our audiences for their generous
donations of £228.75 which will be split between supporting the performing arts at OGPS and our school
council chosen charity for the spring term, “Send a Friend to School.”
If you want to purchase a copy of our “Aladdin Kids” DVD, please contact the school office; they will be
available after the Easter break.

Safeguarding Zone Leaving Children at Home
If a child is not ready to be left alone, they can feel sad, lonely, frightened and it can be dangerous. There are many possible risks, both physical and emotional, which could affect your child in a bad way.
It is not possible to rely on a child to let you know how much care they need. They may say that they do not mind being left, and may find it fun at first, but they cannot fully know the possible risks and how to handle them. Even ordinary things that happen in life, such as hunger, a storm, the phone ringing or someone coming to the front door can cause problems, power cuts may occur, and these are not things that a child would know how to deal with.
It is never possible to leave your child and assume that someone will look out for them, unless you have already spoken to a trusted friend or neighbour and specifically asked them to keep an eye out.
If they are told, the Police or Social Services may take action if they think that a child has been neglected by being left alone. Neglect happens when a parent or carer does not meet the children’s basic needs of food, shelter, security, attention or protection from danger.
The NSPCC have issued guidelines advising that children under the age of 13 should not be left alone. While this is not the law, it is suggested as good practice. Children under 13 years of age cannot manage the responsibility of being left alone and this may be particularly so if they have a disability.
In the last parent survey, parents requested a calendar of dates for the academic year.
