Front CoverThe front cover for Adele's album 21 is very simple, not much has been included to the cover except for one photo, her name and the name of the album. The first thing we notice on this album is the image of Adele which has been enlarged to cover the whole of the front. So initially all attention has been drawn towards her. Her simple classic makeup look is very iconic and can be related to every female, which suggests that her music can be enjoyed and understood by people of any age. The lack of detail on the front cover is important because it makes the audience aware of what is there which is Adele's facial expressions. She is looking down which suggests she is in deep thought and also represents her genre of music and the type of reaction you would expect to see after listening to her songs. Her facial expressions also link well onto the colour theme of black and white. The dark tones used highlight the connection between her music. White is a representation of purity and cleanliness where as black represents power, elegance and mystery. Together these colours put with the position of Adele create a very strong image. The name of the album has been written on the bottom right hand corner of the album to make sure that her whole face is on show. The use of green for the number “21” is important as it symbolises harmony and growth. Which proposes that her music has progressed and developed since her previous album “19”. The green also stands out against the black and white throughout the rest of the cover. The layout of the album has been kept in a similar theme and format to her previous album which was also a close up of her face with the writing on the bottom right hand corner.

Back CoverThe back cover has been created to make it look very similar to the front. The theme of black and white has been continued, with a black background and white writing.Adele's face has been positioned to the right of the cover and is not central this time, this is because it is not the key element but is still an important factor. She is looking at the audience this time but the photo looks like it was taken in the same shoot as the one on the front. Still, her features are the only thing which have been highlighted, such as her eyes and lips. She is conveying a very serious look still and hold a neutral expression. The song titles have all been included. These all help to convey the genre of music Adele sings, these all help to reflect the mood and has also been created through the use of black and white which is very deep and meaningful. The same font has been used on the back as well to connect the covers together.I have noticed that the first ad last song on the album have been released before the album, which will attract a larger audience as they will recognise these songs and may persuade the audience to buy her whole album if they already know these songs. The name of the songs have been written in larger text to the number beside them, this is because they are the most important thing on the back as the songs are there to be shown and advertised to the audience. They have been centred together even though they are to the left of the album, this is to give the album a much more formal and elegant feel to it.Other important information has been included on the back such as the barcode and the name of the record copany she is with. The colour theme of black and white is continued as not to make these elements stand out as they are not there to be shown off to the audience at a glance and do not take the attention away from Adele and the names of her songs.

CD

However the CD itself is extremely different and contrasts from the moody atmosphere created on both covers. The look of the CD is much more modern and “fun” where as the covers of the digipak have been created to make a much more “Classic” look to it.The colour green has been used again, the same as the number 21 on the cover. The number 21 is a very prominent part of the CD and is a lot more obvious compared to on the covers where it is quite discrete. The font has also been changed, this is a lot more “friendly” and simple which juxtaposes the other which was a lot more serious on the front and back. It replicates the idea that it has been hand written and also is more appealing to a younger target audience, it has been written to almost tell the audience that even though Adele’s music is deep and serious she is still a fun loving person at heart. The important information has still been written on the bottom of the CD in small letters. It has been written at the bottom as it is out of the way but also obvious enough for it to be noticed by the audience.
