Welcome to Adelaide Education Attractions

Adelaide Education Attractions aims to assist both primary and secondary school teachers with planning exciting and varied excursions to the City. This guide lists a range of interesting and educational places for school groups to visit. The guide includes the City’s major attractions as well as profiling some of the lesser known and unique educational sites that Adelaide has to offer.

How do I use this Guide?

Attractions are listed alphabetically, so if you are looking for information on a particular place, you can access it directly. Alternatively, you might like to use the guide as a source of ideas by browsing through to get an idea of the vast number of places to visit in the Central Business District (CBD).

Each listing gives a brief general overview of the place, location details including a map coordinate, opening hours, website address, contact details, any tours that are offered and potential curriculum links.

We hope that you enjoy your time in the City and, with the help of Adelaide Education Attractions, discover something new during your visit.

Adelaide Statues and MemorialsAlmost all statues in the City form part of the City of Adelaide Civic Collection. The majority were erected during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, some with a view to raising the cultural tone of the City, others to commemorate significant persons or historical events.Wealthy private benefactors presented some statues to the City, while special interest groups celebrating specific causes or achievements erected others. The majority were acquired and paid for by public subscription campaigns, usually supported by the Council. Many of the City’s statues are of former reigning Monarchs, early explorers, City founders or important political, social and scientific identities. There are also some fine figures of classical and mythological origin, a number of major war memorials and a scattering of various busts, plaques and obelisks. Most monuments and memorials are located in the public squares, boulevards or gardens, though some have been placed near the entrance to particular buildings, and a few are located in the Adelaide Town Hall.Where: Refer to website for descriptions and locationsWebsite: www.cityofadelaide.com.au (Home>Attractions> City Landmarks)Cost: FreeCurriculum Links: Society and Environment /Arts / English
