The opportunity for children to interact with ASO through the Learning program can be a life changing experience. The creative offerings by the orchestra are of the highest standard and the program offers professional development for teachers and students that will influence them throughout their careers.
The 2019 Learning Program connects with a broad cross section of South Australian communities, from pre-school through to tertiary students and musicians in the community.
These unique experiences will inform and inspire teachers and a new generation of students, showcasing the important role the orchestra of today plays in our society.
SA Power Networks is proud to support this valuable program, expanding the experiences of young people and supporting the cultural life of our community.
The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra acknowledges that the
land we make music on today is the traditional country of
the Kaurna people of the Adelaide Plains and pays respect
to Elders past and present. We recognise and respect their
cultural heritage, beliefs and relationship with the land.
We acknowledge that they are of continuing importance
to the Kaurna people living today.
Rob Stobbe CEO, SA Power Networks
The ASO is an innovator in music and education, and our comprehensive, all-ages Learning Program leads the way nationally. Over the last few years participatory projects with internationally acclaimed composer and presenter, Paul Rissmann, have garnered much attention and support from students, teachers and the wider community.
Our relationship with Paul has evolved over this time and I am delighted that Paul joins us once again in 2019. He will bring his magic to Adelaide in April and late July when he will work with musicians of tomorrow, students, teachers and families to infect us all with his own special brand of music making.
2019 brings a rich diversity of learning experiences: from school incursions in Little Maestros and The Bush Concert, to school excursions to our DreamBIG Children’s Festival collaboration Who needs a conductor anyway? and three concerts during the Festival of Learning all pitched at diverse age groups: Giddy Goat, Dreams of Air and Flight and Earth, Wind and Fire. For your students who dream of playing with the ASO, there is our ever popular and impactful Big Rehearsals program as well as the chance to see what happens in rehearsals in our Rehearsals Unwrapped offering. And for teachers, there are multiple Professional Development opportunities, ensuring we take care of our educators so they are empowered to instil a love of music in those they reach.
The ASO’s Learning program is having a lasting and meaningful impact on pre-school, primary and secondary school children, parents and teachers.

“The orchestra in the 21st Century has a moral duty to take its amazing music and musicians and play to the community, to as many people as possible, irrespective of what age they are, and to find a way of creating the most exciting way to engage that audience. Putting so much thought and attention and care into new kinds of concerts, new ways of exciting people about a repertoire which we are all so passionate about. And I think the ASO are doing that in such an amazing and adventurous way. It’s just been brilliant to be part of that journey.” Paul Rissmann Composer and Educator

Who Needs a Conductor, Anyway?
MayTue 28 10am & 11.30am
ASO Grainger Studio
In this South Australian premiere, the mysteries of the conductor are unveiled in this beautiful and funny foray into classical music starring world-class pianist Simon Tedeschi and the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.
We've got the orchestra and the pianist: what happens if there's no conductor? Why can’t everyone just play how they like? (And seriously, how hard can conducting be, anyway?).
Celebrated Australian pianist Simon Tedeschi actually has no idea, but with the musicians of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and some of the most famous concertos of all time, he’ll put these and other questions to the test. A captivating concert for curious minds and ears.

The ASO is committed to music education and donors play a vital part in helping us make music with audiences across South Australia each year.

While early musical experiences for children are priceless, the investment required by the ASO is substantial. Whether it be new maracas for a school concert ($30), transporting equipment on a regional tour ($2000), or purchasing musical stands and specialised chairs ($99 and $450) – the resources to run a professional orchestra are considerable.
We think music is an essential part of a thriving community and ask those who share our values to consider making a donation, enabling us to inspire future generations with our music.
Gifts of any size can be made to the Learning Program, and are very appreciated.
