Stepping Stones Society and the
ECRC – Parent Link Centre is pleased to
welcome Travis Kowalski who joined our
organization in January 2018 as its new
Executive Director.
Travis brings over 18 years experience in
non-profit leadership, program management,
organizational change and development,
community engagement and partnership
building, as well as a sincere commitment
and passion for delivering the highest quality
of services to the children and families we
serve in Grande Prairie and communities
throughout the Northwest region.
We had 60 children and adults who attended our Family Literacy Day event and I wanted to thank the families for their support. I wanted to thank New Horizon Co-op for their donation of hot chocolate and yummy treats. Thanks to our partnering agencies who provided staff and fantastic literacy activities. Our event was supported by Grande Prairie City Council with Councillor Pilat providing greetings on behalf of Mayor Given along with Councillor O’Toole, Councillor Bressey with his son and Councillor Thiessen.
Triple P Tip Sheet ….Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Being a parent of a child with ADHD is a challenging job, but it can also be very rewarding. The aim of good parenting is to help your child to reach their potential. Most adults begin
their parenting careers unprepared for what lies ahead, and learn parenting skills through trial and error. Parent of children with ADHD often experience frustration and
disappointment as the parenting skills they have learnt are not effective with their child. Many parents have high expectations of themselves—how they should feel and cope with
being a parent. Unrealistic expectations can lead to feelings of disappointment or inadequacy. This tip sheet gives some suggestions to help you manage the challenges that come
with being a parent of a child with ADHD.
If you have any questions about the Triple P Program or would like to register in an upcoming class and or book a
4 week one on one session with a facilitator, please call the ECRC-Parent Link Centre at 780-882-8679.
One of Parent Links 5 Core Services is:
Parent Education.
What is Parent Education?
Parent Link centres provide an
information portal that connects parents with programs,
tools and resources that can help them raise strong,
healthy, well adjusted children.
Parent Education programs help “to build parents’ skills and
confidence in providing a nurturing environment for their
children.” They address the needs of parents, regardless of
family structure, or socio-economic background.
Examples of Parent Education Programs include: • formal and informal workshops and seminars on
issues related to parenting and early childhood
development
• drop-in seminars and programs for parents and
caregivers
• family literacy and numeracy programs for parents and care-
givers
