PREFACE

World in invented by God for his slave to live blisefully and rolling this universe with full responsibilities. He gives the ultimate decision and the best for every mankind. He creates creatures and make to born in this world . No one asks to be born early or late .It is already written by the Almighty. With that I would like to thank the god for giving me this golden opportunity and strength to finish this assignment .Besides , I would like to thank him again for giving me a chance to obey my teachers instructions by finishing this folio which have been asked by them for my SPM.

On the other hand, I would like to thank my beloved parents whom are the source of my life. In fact, I would not born in this world without the presence of my beloved parents. Therefore, I would like to thank them again and it is not only just for the purpose that I have stated just now but also for the sacrifices that they have made for me and especially to complete this assignment.

Now , it is my turn to appreciate my teachers and friends who had helped me a lot whether directly or indirectly. I would like to thank all of them just because they have gave me a lot of cooperation , support and guidance on how to prepare a quality paper work. Furthermore, they helped me on how to collect this data easily and efficiently .

Before I end, I hope too that this kind of assignment must be continuous so that the future generation may improve their creative and critic thinking skills. Other than that this may create a quality generations with a quality leadership skills. With that I thank you.

OBJECTIVE

We, the students of 5 Science, taking Additional Mathematics are required to carry out a project work. For this year, the Curriculum Development Division, Ministry of Education has prepared four tasks for us. We are required to choose and complete only one task based on our area of interest. This project can be done in groups or individually, but each of us are expected to submit it individually written report. Upon completion of the Additional Mathematics project work, we are to gain valuable experiences and able to;

1) Apply and adapt a variety of problem solving strategies to solve routine and non-routine problems.

2) Experience classroom environments which are challenging, interesting and meaningful and hence improve their thinking skills.

3) Experience classroom environments where knowledge and skills are applied in meaningful ways in solving real-life problems.

4) Experience classroom environments where expressing ones mathematical thinking, reasoning and communication are highly encouraged and expected.

5) Experience classroom environments that stimulates and enhances effective learning.

6) Acquire effective mathematical communication through oral and writing, and to use the language of mathematics to express mathematical ideas correctly and precisely.

7) Enhance acquisition of mathematical knowledge and skills through problem- solving in ways that increase interest and confidence.

8) Prepare ourselves for the demand of our future undertakings and in workplace.

9) Realises that Mathematics is an important and powerful tool in solving real-life problems and hence develop positive attitude towards mathematics.

10) Train ourselves not only to be independent learners but also to collaborate, to cooperate and to share knowledge in an engaging healthy environment.

11) Use technology especially the ICT appropriately and effectively.12) Train ourselves to appreciate the intrinsic values of mathematics and to

become more creative and innovative.13) Realises the importance and the beauty of Mathematic.

INTRODUCTION

What is statistics

Statistics is the study of the collection, organization, analysis, and interpretation of data. It deals with all aspects of this, including the planning of data collection in terms of the design of surveys and experiments.

A type of mathematical analysis involving the use of quantified representations, models and summaries for a given set of empirical data or real world observations. Statistical analysis involves the process of collecting and analyzing data and then summarizing the data into a numerical form.

Statistics like many other Science is a developing discipline. It is not nothing static. It has gradually developed during last few centuries. In different times, it has been defined in different manners. Some definitions of the past look very strange today but those definitions had their place in their own time. Defining a subject has always been a difficult task. A good definition of today may be discarded in future.

Besides that, it very simple but it covers only some area of statistics. Average is very simple important in statistics. Experts are interested in average deaths rates, average birth rates, average increase in population, and average increase in per capita income, average increase in standard of living and cost of living, average development rate, average inflation rate, average production of rice per acre, average literacy rate and many other averages of different fields of practical life. But statistics is not limited to average only. There are many other statistical tools like measure of variation, measure of correlation, and measures of independence. Thus this definition is weak and incomplete and has been buried in the past.

Page 6: Addmath Project (2)

Moral statistics most narrowly refers to numerical data generally considered to be indicative of social pathology in groups of people. Examples include statistics on crimes (against persons and property), illiteracy, suicide, illegitimacy, abortion, divorce, prostitution, and the economic situation sometimes called pauperism in the 19th century.

The gathering of anything that might be called social statistics is often dated from John Graunt’s (1662) analysis of the London Bills of Mortality, which tabulated birth and death data collected by London parishes. The beginnings of the systematic collection of population statistics (now called demography) occurred in the mid-18th century, often attributed to Johann Peter Süssmilch in 1741. Data on moral variables began to be collected and disseminated by various state agencies (most notably in France and Britain) in the early 19th century, and were widely used in debates about social reform.

The first major work on this topic was the Essay on moral statistics of France by André-Michel Guerry in 1833. In this book, Guerry presented thematic maps of the departments of France, shaded according to illiteracy, crimes against persons and against property, illegitimacy, donations to the poor and so forth, and used these to ask questions about how such moral variables were related.

In Britain this theme was taken up beginning in 1847 by Joseph Fletche r who published several articles on the topic Moral and educational statistics of England and Wales.

History of statistics

The history of statistics can be said to start around 1749 although, over time, there have been changes to the interpretation of what the word statistics means. In early times, the meaning was restricted to information about states. This was later extended to include all collections of information of all types, and later still it was extended to include the analysis and interpretation of such data. In modern terms, "statistics" means both sets of collected information, as in national accounts and temperature records, and analytical work which requires statistical inference.

Statistical activities are often associated with models expressed using probabilities, and requireprobability theory for them to be put on a firm theoretical basis: see History of probability.

A number of statistical concepts have had an important impact on a wide range of sciences. These include the design of experiments and approaches to statistical inference such as Bayesian inference, each of which can be considered to have their own sequence in the development of the ideas underlying modern statistics.

Page 7: Addmath Project (2)

Why Should I Learn Statistics?

In today's information-overloaded age, statistics is one of the most useful subjects anyone can learn. Newspapers are filled with statistical data, and anyone who is ignorant of statistics is at risk of being seriously misled about important real-life decisions such as what to eat, who is leading the polls, how dangerous smoking is, etc. Knowing a little about statistics will help one to make more informed decisions about these and other important questions. Furthermore, statistics are often used by politicians, advertisers, and others to twist the truth for their own gain. The best thing about being a statistician is that you get to play in everyone else’s backyard.

More seriously, those proceeding to higher education will learn that statistics is the most powerful tool available for assessing the significance of experimental data, and for drawing the right conclusions from the vast amounts of data faced by engineers, scientists, sociologists, and other professionals in most spheres of learning. There is no study with scientific, clinical, social, health, environmental or political goals that does not rely on statistical methodologies. The basic reason for that is that variation is ubiquitous in nature and probability and statistics are the fields that allow us to study, understand, model, embrace and interpret variation.

Statistics today is not mere counting of people, counting of animals, counting of trees and counting of fighting force. It has now grown to a rich methods of data analysis and interpretation. It is extremely important for a researcher to know what statistics they want to use before they collect their data. Otherwise data might be collected that is uninterpretable. Unfortunately, when this happens it results in a loss of data, time, and money

(ii) Compare the pulse rate before the step up board activity of student in your school with a standart pulse rate.Give your comment

( Answer ) :

The pulse rate before the step up board activity of students in my school is between 58 and 99. 58 is least number. 99 is bigger number. The least pulse rate number is belongs to Then Arasen. the bigger pulse rate number is belongs toLiew Qian Hui,Azmi Muslim and Baddrol Bakhtiar. This four people are have different characteristics. These characteristics may cause the change of pulse rate between them.

Then Arasen have a week body thats why his pulse rate is very low. Before taking the pulse rate he may never eat. But the three people who are have highest number of pulse rate are very active. Their body not weak. They may did exercises before take their pulse rate. Also they may eat well before take the pulse rate. Then Arasen may do not have doing exercises and eat well habits. But theLiew Qian Hui,Azmi Muslim, andBaddrol Bakhtiar have that habits.

The others may do exercises and eating in medium level. So their number of pulse rate is not much and low. They maintain their medium level. Their body also not fat too much and not slim too much. They also active. This the reason for they have medium level of number of pulse rate. The change of pulse rate of everyone is depend on their characteristics

The normal pulse rate before activity is 75 - 100My calculate is Mean = 80.94 Mode = 80Median = 82.5

So we are healthy and normal.

CONCLUSION

Page 30: Addmath Project (2)

After doing research ,answering question ,drawing graphs and some problem solving . I saw that the usage of statistics is important in daily life. I know the pulse rate before doing the activity and after activity. besides, I know the time of the pulse rate is normal as my resting heart rate which is normal for teenagers and adults. heart rate is dependent on several factors including the level of fitness andenvironmental stress. for example, some calculations that I did to my mother, two teachers and two friends of athletes and non athletes. result, My THR is higher than my mother, because she is old than me.EN.SUHAIMI’S THR is higher than.CIK.SHASHILA,because En. Suhaimi is a teachers ‘s Pjk. My athlete friend is higher than non athele friend is because the athlete have do exercise

While you were conducting the project .what have you learnt?what moral values did you practice? .Represent your opinions or feelings creatively through usage of symbols, ilustrations, drawing or even in a song

ANWSER :

While I was conducting the project, feel very shock . I feel that the title is very very hard for me to solve the question . Because I feel my ADD MATH are going decreament . But I am still very work hard going on this project until it complete . At the same time I revise all my Additional Mathematics lesson and formula

I had learned many moral values that I practice. This project work had taught me to be more confident when doing something especially thehomework given by the teacher. I also learned to be a disciplined type of student which is alwayssharp on time while doing some work, complete the

work by myself and researching thein formations from the internet. I also felt very enjoy when making this project during the school or home

(a) Obtain your own Resting Heart Rate(RHR). My own (RHR)

Age : 17 year old RHR : 72beat/min

(b) Calculate your Maximum Heart Rate(MHR). Hence, calculate your Target Heart Rate or Training Heart Rate

My own calculate

Age : 17 year old RHR : 72beat/min MHR : 220-17 : 203 beat/min

My MHR is 203 beat/min

THR (minimum) = RHR + % (MHR-RHR) = 72 + 70% (203-72) = 72 + 70% ( 131 ) = 72 + 91.7 = 163.7beat/min

THR (maximum) = RHR+ % (MHR-RHR) = 72 + 80% (203-72) = 72 + 80% (131) = 72 + 104.8

= 176.5 beat/min

My THR is between 163-176 beat/min

Repeat the calculations in (a) and (b) for

(i) Your mother or your father or your guardian,

My Mother

Name : Rosmawati Binti Husin Age : 46 years old RHR : 60 beat/min MHR : 220-40 : 180 beat/min

Page 33: Addmath Project (2)

THR(minimum) = RHR+%(MHR-RHR) = 60+70%(180-60) = 60+70%(120) = 60+84 = 144 beat/min

THR(maximum) = RHR + % (MHR-RHR) = 60 + 80% (180-60) = 60 + 80% (120) = 60 + 96 = 156 beat/min

My Mother’s THR is between 144-156 beat/min

(ii) Two of your teacher,

My teacher

Name : En.Suhaimi Age : 27 year old RHR : 99 beat/min MHR : 220-27 : 193beat/min

THR (minimum) = RHR +% (MHR-RHR) = 99 + 70% (193-99) = 99 + 70% (94) = 99 + 65.8 = 164.8beat/min

THR (maximum) = RHR + % (MHR-RHR) = 99 + 80% (193-99) = 99 + 80% (94) = 99 + 75.2 = 174.2 beat/min

EN SUHAIMI’s THR is between 164-174 beat/min

My teacher

Name : CIK.Shasila Age : 24 year old

RHR : 78 beat/min MHR : 220-24 : 196 beat/min

Page 34: Addmath Project (2)

THR (minimum) = RHR + % (MHR-RHR) = 78 + 70% (196-78) = 78 + 70% (118) = 78 + 82.6 = 16O.6 beat/min

THR (maximum) = RHR+% (MHR-RHR) = 78 + 80% (196-78) = 78 + 80% (118) = 78 +94.4 = 172.4

CIK.SHASHILA’s THR is between 160-172 beat/min

(iii) Two of your friends (an athlete and non athlete)

An athlete Name : Baxter Edward Age : 17 year old RHR : 113 beat/min MHR : 220-17 : 203 beat/min

THR (minimum) = RHR + % (MHR-RHR) = 113 + 70% (203-113) = 113 + 70% (90) = 113 + 63 = 176 beat/min

THR (maximum) = RHR + % (MHR-RHR) = 113 + 80% (203-113) = 113 + 80% (90) = 113 + 72 = 185 beat/min

Friend of athlete’s is between 176-185 beat/min Non athlete

Name : Clive John Age : 17 year old RHR : 60 beat/min

Page 35: Addmath Project (2)

MHR : 220-17 : 203 beat/min

THR (minimum) = RHR +% (MHR-RHR) = 60 + 70% (203-60) = 60 + 70% (143) = 60 + 100.1 = 160.1 beat/min

THR (maximum) = RHR +% (MHR-RHR) = 60 + 80% (203-60) = 60 + 80% (143) = 60 + 114.4 = 174.4 beat/min
