THE GREEN500 jOURNEY SO FAR
Addison Lee has started implementing all of the points highlighted in its Green500 action plan and it has already noticed a difference that these small steps have made in combating its energy usage and carbon emissions.
Its Green500 assessment showed that it was possible to achieve a 5% reduction in heating costs through changing the first floor windows to A-rated ones. Further to this
advice, Addison Lee has fitted the entire building with such windows, as the benefits of replacing them on the first floor were instantly apparent.
Once this was complete, the company took further advice on reducing the ambient temperature by between 1-3 degrees and reduced its heating load by 16%.
ON BEING MEMBERS OF GREEN500
The biggest asset from Green500 has been the combination of the EST Green Fleet Review and the implementation of fuel monitoring and benchmarking systems.
The cost of Addison Lee’s energy for its sites is increasing long term, and managing it, and ultimately reducing it, is crucial throughout the company. Green500 has helped Addison Lee develop an energy management policy which shapes future decision-making and enables it to strive to improve its environmental performance.
“Addison Lee has always strived to excel in all its operations. For a transport firm like this, the reduction of emissions while increasing business is imperative, but undoubtedly a challenge. Joining the London Green500 was the perfect scheme to join; it was incredibly helpful and professional. Its assessment covered all areas, and highlighted, even the feeblest to us, issues that it thought were salient when targeting carbon emissions. The energy breakdown enclosed in the report was a real eye opener and the action plan it drafted really helped in setting the company’s directions and adjusting operational targets.”
