SECTION 13120 - PRE-ENGINEERED METAL BUILDING SYSTEM PART 1 - GENERAL 1.01 WORK INCLUDED

A. Furnish and install a complete pre-engineered metal building system as indicated, noted and detailed on the drawings and specified herein to include:

C. All structural steel and accessories shall be domestic products. Imported products will not be approved

for use.

1.06 SUBMITTALS A. Furnish to the Architect/Engineer for his approval complete shop and field erection drawings.

1. Submit drawings certified by Manufacturer’s Engineer prior to fabrication and erection of structural steel.

2. Base drawings on AISC Publication Structural Steel Detailing.

B. Furnish the Architect/Engineer with the following certificates: 1. AWS Certification of all welders who will perform work on this project. 2. Certification from supplier that pre-engineered building system furnished for this project conforms to

this specification. 1.07 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING

A. Arrange deliveries and quantities to permit continuity of installation.

2.03 STRUCTURAL STANDING SEAM METAL ROOF SYSTEM

PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 FIELD MEASUREMENT & COORDINATION

A. The contractor is responsible for obtaining all necessary field measurements at the job site and will be held responsible for their accuracy and for the accurate fitting of this work with the work of others.

B. Coordinate the installation of all holes, slots, anchoring assemblies and other necessary devices required by other sections of this specification. Do not install or attach such material which is acknowledge by AISC, ASTM, SSPC, AWS or manufacturer’s literature to be detrimental to the strength and durability of the structural steel. Do not make any such installations without prior review by the Architect/Engineer. Cutting, burning, drilling or punching of the steel in the field will not be permitted unless approved by the Architect/Engineer

3.02 ERECTION OF PRIMARY STRUCTURE

A. Accurately set structural steel in accordance with approved shop and erection drawings to the lines and evaluations indicated or noted with a maximum tolerance of 0.002 foot or 1/500.

B. Grout under base plates and at other connections as shown on the Contract Drawings using non-shrink

grout as specified herein. Grout under column base plates and secure hold down nuts before any other members are connected to columns.

C. Install anchor bolts and other connectors required for securing structural steel to foundations and other

in-place work.

D. Provide rake or gable purlins with tight fitting closure channels and fascias. Locate and space wall girts to suit door and window arrangements and heights. Secure purlins and girts to structural framing and hold rigidly to a straight line by sag rods.

E. Provide diagonal rod or angle bracing in both roof and sidewalls as required. Moment resisting frames

may be used in lieu of sidewall rod bracing, to suit manufacturer’s standards.

F. Provide shapes of proper design and size to reinforce all openings and to carry loads and vibrations

imposed, including equipment furnished under mechanical or electrical work. Securely attach to building structural frame.

3.03 ROOFING AND SIDING INSTALLATION

A. Arrange and nest sidelap joints so that prevailing winds blow over, not into, lapped joints. Lap ribbed or fluted sheets one full rib corrugation. Apply panels and associated items for neat and weather-tight enclosure. Avoid “panel creep” or application not true to line. Protect factory finishes from damage. Provide weather seal under ridge cap; flash and seal roof panels at eave and rake with rubber, neoprene or other closures to exclude weather.

B. Roof Sheets:

1. Provide sealant at lapped joints of roof sheets and between roof sheeting and protruding equipment, vents and accessories. Apply sealant tape continuous to clean, dry surface of weather side of fastenings on end laps and on sidelaps of corrugated or nesting type, ribbed or fluted panels and elsewhere to make weatherproof to driving rains.

2. Seaming of standing seam roofs shall be done with an electrically operating seaming machine. Finished joint shall be a double fold.

3. Install screw fasteners with power tool having controlled torque adjusted to compress neoprene washer tightly without damage to washer, screw threads, or panels. Install screws in predrilled holes.

C. Wall Sheets:

1. Apply elastomeric sealant continuous between metal base channel (sill angle) and concrete and elsewhere as necessary for waterproofing. Handle and apply sealant and back-up in accordance with sealant manufacturer’s recommendations.

2. Align bottom of wall panels and fasten panels with blind rivets, bolts or self-tapping screws. Fasten flashing, trim around openings, etc. with self-tapping screws; fasten window and door frames with welding or bolts. When building height requires two rows of panels at gable ends, align lap of gable panels over wall panels at eave height.

3. Install screw fasteners with power tool having controlled torque adjusted to compress neoprene washer tightly without damage to washer, screw threads, or panels. Install screws in predrilled holes.

4. Fully enclose columns on exterior with all necessary prefinished trim

D. Install thermal insulation in accordance with manufacturer’s published directions, performed concurrently with installation of roof and wall panels. Install blankets straight and true in one-piece length and both set of tabs sealed to provide a complete vapor barrier. Install retainer strips at each longitudinal joint straight and taut, nesting with roof rib to hold insulation in place.
