PKP display re-dedicated MARTIN, Tenn. – On Fri- day, March 23, a group of past and present presidents of the Phi Kappa Phi honor’s society at the University of Tennessee at Martin gathered to re-dedi- cate its tradition of academic excellence on the UT Martin campus. On the second floor of the Paul Meek library a series of plaques and honors now hang on one wall dedicated entirely to the UT Martin Phi Kappa Phi chapter. “The history of Phi Kappa Phi with this chapter, is within each one of us,” said Anna Clark, instructor of English and Phi Kappa Phi nominat- ing committee chair. “I think anyone that’s had any part of academics on this campus understands what this means to us,” said Dr. Jerald Ogg, vice chancellor for aca- demic affairs. The National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi was created in 1897 to encourage superior scholarship and integrity in all academic disciplines. Chapter 127 of Phi Kappa Phi at UT Martin received its charter in 1971. International Café kicks off week of Thailand themed activities March 26 marks the 37th Annual International Café, a feature of the University of Ten- nessee at Martin’s yearly Inter- national Week. Events through- out the week will be focused on the featured country, Thailand. The International Café was hosted from noon-1 p.m., in Duncan Ballroom of the Boling University Center. UT Martin’s international students had the opportunity to share their cul- tures with the campus commu- nity by preparing and selling ex- amples of their native cuisines. Visiting participants were able to sample a variety of foods. At 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27, an international panel dis- cussion with a focus on Thai- land will be held in the legisla- tive chambers, room 111 of the Boling University Center. On Thursday, March 29, stu- dent presentations will take place from 2-4 p.m. in room 229 of the Boling University Center

Theresa Oliver, author of the newly re-leased novel, “Star, Starland Vamp Se-ries, Book 1,” held a book signing in the University Center on Saturday, March 26. Oliver is a 2005 UT Martin graduate and was a communications - news edi-torial sequence major. She now lives in Kissimmee, Fla., where she is a full-time teacher.

Several library faculty members gave presentations at the Tennessee Library Association annual conference in Knoxville, March 21-23. Wesley Harris, currently the Charles Stark Draper Professor of Aeronautics and Astronau-tics at the Massachusetts Insti-tute of Technology (MIT), will present a lecture at 7:30 p.m. on April 3 in Watkins Audito-rium on the main campus of the University of Tennessee at Martin.

Harris is also the associate provost for faculty equity and the director of the Lean Sus-tainment Initiative at MIT. He served as the associate adminis-trator for aeronautics, respon-sible for all programs, facilities and personnel in aeronautics at NASA from 1993-1995.

He served as vice president and chief administrative officer of the University of Tennessee Space Institute in Tullahoma from 1990 to 1993. Harris has conducted academic research associated with unsteady aero-dynamics, aeroacoustics, rar-efied gasdynamics, sustainment of capital assets, and chaos in sickle cell disease and has made seminal contributions in each of these research fields.

Harris has held positions on various boards and commit-tees, including the National Research Council, the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Army Science Board, the Amer-ican Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and the Na-tional Technical Association.

Harris earned his Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace engineering at the University of Virginia and his Master of Arts and Doctorate of Philosophy degrees in aerospace and me-chanical sciences from Princ-eton University.

His lecture is co-sponsored by UT Martin Honors Programs, the Sigma Xi Research Society, the College of Engineering and National Sciences and the Col-lege of Agriculture and Applied Sciences.
