TITLE: THE TREE AND THE WOODCUTTER

SYNOPSIS

This story is about the girl name Alia, animals and flower who want to save their friend,

‘tree’ from the woodcutter. They work as a team and try their best to help him. Would Alia

and his friend success at the end?

Characters:

Narrator

Alia

Rabbit

Flower

Dove

Sun

Woodcutter

Squirrel

Setting:  In the forest.

The tree is on stage. Very slowly the sun appears. The birds are singing. There´s  soft

music in the background.

Props:

Axe

Ball

ACT 1

CHARACTERS:

Narrator

Tree

Alia

SCRIPT:

Narrator : In a village, life a family who have daughter name Alia. She was so kind and

loves nature. She always plays with the animals around the house and takes care of the

plants. One day, while Alia was searching for her missing ball, an unexpected incident

happened

Tree: (crying slowly)

Alia: (enters stage) Where´s my ball?. My mom will get angry if she knows that my ball is

missing again.  (then she talks to the audience): Has anybody seen my ball?.

Tree : (crying loudly)

Alia: (looking at the tree with shock face) What´s wrong with you tree? Are you crying?

Who hit you? . (then she talks to the audience): Did you hurt the tree?

Tree: Nobody hurt me, don´t worry. You are too young, you don`t understand.(looking

down to the ground with the sad face)(Starts to cry again)

Alia: Dear tree, (put the hand to the tree), don’t be like that. I am your friend. If you have

problem, lets share it with me and I will help you to solve it. Trust me.(shows smiley face

to the tree and hug it)

Tree : Hmmm…hmmm..actually..

ACT 2

CHARACTERS:

Narrator

Rabbit

Alia

SCRIPT:

Rabbit: (enters stage running) You didn´t get me! You didn´t get me! . (then trips with

Alia and both fell to the floor)

Alia: Ouch! Watch out!

Rabbit:  Oh, I´m sorry, I´m sorry. I didn’t mean it (stand up and try to help Alia to stand)

Alia : Its okey rabbit. But please make sure that you will be more careful next time.(hold

rabbit’s hand and standing beside him )

Rabbit : Okey Alia, I will be more careful after this .I’m so sorry.(talking to Alia with the

slow voice )

Narrator : Suddenly, rabbit saw the sad face of the tree and he asked the tree.

Rabbit : What´s wrong?(then talks to the tree): Do you have a cold or are you crying?

Tell me if you have problem.

Alia : Yea tree, tell us. We will help you.

Alia and Rabbit: Tell us! (Both stand nearer to the tree and hold his shoulder)

ACT 3

CHARACTERS:

Tree

Rabbit

Alia

Dove

Flower

Squirrel

Sun

SCRIPT :

Tree: Dear Alia and Rabbit. I am so sad because the bird told me that a woodcutter is

coming to cut me down. (showing the sad face and talking with the slow voice)

Rabbit: Are they going to cut you down? (using the high voice and show the shock face

to the tree)

Alia: Really? I will not allow this to happen.(stamp the leg, put the hands at the hip and

shows the angry face to the audience).

Dove, Flower, Squirrel : (enter the stage and ask the audience) : What will happen to

us if he cut the tree down?

Dove: Where am I going to do my nest? ( showing the nest on the tree).

Flower: Who will give me shade? ( use the arm to make a roof of the shelter) .

Squirrel: Where am I going to play? I love to play here. (Jumping around the tree)

Sun: How sad the forest will be! We have fewer trees to give sunlight.

Flower: Alia, please help us to save the tree.(rub the eyes and start to cry)

Dove , squirrel and rabbit : Yes Alia, please help the tree.

Alia: Don’t worry everyone; I will try my best to help all of you. But we have to work as a

team.(said to the audience):Would you help us too?

Narrator: All the animals, plants and Alia discuss the strategy to help the tree from the

woodcutter.(sit in the circle beside the tree and discuss)

ACT 4

CHARACTERS:

Alia

Dove

Woodcutter

Tree

SCRIPT:

Dove: There he comes! There he comes, the woodcutter! Let´s get together.(enters the

stage and shouted)

Woodcutter: (enters stage whistling):  Which tree should I cut? I´ll choose one (looks at

the tree).. I like this one (starts to cut) (the rabbit appears and throws the axe to the floor.

The woodcutter seems surprised, looks around, picks up the axe and tries again to cut

the tree, but the bird appears and also throws the axe to the floor) .What´s happening?

Why are these animals bothering me? (pull up the axe and start babbling)

Squirrel: (takes the nuts and throw it on the woodcutter head)

Woodcutter: Ouch! (rubbing the head and look up on the tree and say) : Whose there?

Hello! .(talk to the audience): Do you see anybody here?

Tree: Oh, please don`t do that! (cries)

Alia: (enters stage) Don´t you listen how he cries?

Woodcutter: Who´s crying? The tree? Who cares about the tree? (then talks to the

audience) Do you all care?

Alia: We care. He gives us fruit, he protects us, he cleans our air and he´s our friend.

Woodcutter: I have a family and I need wood to cook and get warm.

Alia: You can find wood somewhere else. You can find wood in old and dry branches

and trees. This tree is our friend and we are going to take care of him. (Pointing and

standing in front of the tree and open his arm to protect the tree)

ACT 5

CHARACTERS:

Narrator

Alia

Rabbit

Woodcutter

Dove

Flower

Squirrel

SCRIPT :

Narrator: Then, all the animals and plants enters and ready to fight with the woodcutter.

Rabbit: (enters stage) If you´re brave, come fight with me!(run and stand bravely in front

of the woodcutter) I will fight for you, tree.

Woodcutter: (hits the head’s rabbit with the hand) Who do you want to fight with?

Rabbit: Me? With nobody! Who said something about fighting? (move backward and run

out from the stage)

Flower: Please don’t cut the tree. He is my shelter, he always protect me from the strong

wind and hot sun.(bend the leg and begging to the woodcutter)

Dove : (flying around the tree)

Alia:  We will not leave you. He will also have to destroy us . (hug the tree)

Woodcutter: (looks  impressed) OK, that`s enough. I´ll look somewhere else, maybe for

dry trees. I am not a monster. (then talks to the audience): Don´t look at me that way. I

understand now. Let the trees live (leaves stage).

Alia: (jumps happily) We did it! We did it!

Rabbit: (enters stage) Where is he? Where is he?

Girl: He´s gone, he understood. Our friend is safe now. (talking happily to the others )

Tree: I am very happy! Thank you my friends.

Narrator: All the animals and plants were so happy as the tree was safe from the

woodcutter. They sing the ‘Happy family song’ to celebrate the happiness.(holding

hand,sing the song with action)

‘I love you

You love me

We are happy family

With a big great hug and a kiss from me to you

Wont you say you love me too.’
