Privateer is a term used in motocross to describe a rider without any sponsorship going up

against large teams. Given the size of our school and the schools we compete against, the

theme fit perfectly for FSU. Two of the key team members also competed in dirt bike races.

Regional’s hosted by FSU and WVU Institute of Technology. Races were held at

Summersville Lake. Tours were available for the New River Gorge Bridge and the

Summersville Dam. Awesome venue for young civil engineers in training!

The name was partially derived based on the school’s mascot and was designed to simulate

the F-16 Thunderbird design. After traveling 6,000 miles, FSU performed their first “Duct

Tape” surgery! After falling off the stand on race day, the nose fell completely off.

2004 was the first time FSU qualified for the National Concrete Canoe Competition

(NCCC). FSU has maintained this winning streak since 2004!

FSU is the ONLY school from WV ever to be invited to the NCCC.

No races were held at Regional’s this year, due to the river current in Morgantown.

FSU was the ONLY team to place in ALL nine of the regional competitions offered!

The Mayfield was a tribute to Jeff Mayfield,

an Architect professor at FSU who lost his

life in a boating accident
