• Berkley is an imagined fisher – a character in this story – whose true name alludes to the Brit Slang, berk, a similar gesture as to call someone fool.
• Berkley is the name of an absent minded fisher; it is the brand of the knife he loses in the overgrowth by a lagoon; it morphs into Berkley the animal.
