Welfaregordon A. Thoman – Honorary member and retired Midwest Advertising Manager for Traffic World passed away on February 6 at the age of 88. Mr. Thoman joined the Club in 1964 when he was the Midwest Advertis-ing Representative for Traffic World. He began his career in advertising after returning from WWII, where he earned a Purple Heart in the European The-ater. He worked in the industry in Chicago for 50 years. He sold advertising space for The Chicago Herald American, The Hospital Journal of the Ameri-can Hospital Association, Mill & Factory Magazine and spent the remaining 25 years as the Midwest Advertising Manager for Traffic World. Mr. Thoman retired in 1989 at which time he was elected an honorary member. However, his retire-ment didn’t last very long and he returned to selling advertising for Transport Topics and then Progressive Railroading Maga-zine. He retired for good in 1996 at the age of 72 and spent his remaining years reading, playing golf and spending time with his wife Barbara, his four children and seven grandchildren.
