TRANSCRIPT

  • What is the product or service being advertised? The product being advertised is a full coverage makeup called Revlon: Age Defying with DNA Advantage.

LINE is being used in the design to: (Check all that apply) X Create a mood X Organize other elements on the page Create texture through illustration Please thoroughly explain your answer to the question above and analyze/describe how this

advertisement or website uses LINE. The element of line in this advertisement, first of all, expresses a sense of order where the text and

product are separated by invisible lines instead of an alternative unorganized method. The main use, however, falls within the picture itself. The DNA strand in the background is basically a line that twists diagonally upward, creating a positive mood of a product that is claimed to have a very positive result on your skin. Even the twist shape within the product appears to swirl up, which was probably inspired by the DNA strand appearance.

Please describe the effectiveness of the use of LINE in this design. I believe that this advertisement works very well, expressing the very important fact that the

product helps defy signs of age with the image of the product itself and the use of the 3D DNA strand behind it. The written information helps as well, explaining what the product does for your (the viewers) skin and how much it has helped other women. It allows the viewers eye to follow along, using a zig-zag motion, which is known to be the path that most people instinctively follow when viewing advertisements.

Who is the primary audience of the advertisement or website? The primary audience consists of older women perhaps in their mid/late thirties and older, this

    being an age defying make-up.

  • What is the product or service being advertised? The product is the MasterCard credit card. SHAPE is being used in the design in the following way(s): (Check all that apply) __Photos and illustrations are creating shape through the actual shape and content of the art. __Line or a line illustration is creating the predominant shape __Type is creating the predominant shape X Shaded or colored areas are creating the predominant shape __Shape is sustaining the viewers interest. __Shape is organizing the page X Shape is helping the viewer understand the concept __Shape is leading the viewers eye through the design Please thoroughly explain your answer to the question above and analyze/describe in your own

words how this advertisement or website uses SHAPE. The element of shape in this advertisement is what forms the main illustration, allowing the viewer

to understand what the product is through the use of a colored shape that forms the logo. It also encompasses the picture of the woman asleep in her bed with factual arrows pointing inward, directing the viewers attention with the Priceless method.

Please describe the effectiveness of the use of SHAPE in this design. The simplicity in this advertisement is effective in itself, using the shape and colors of the

MasterCard logo that is very commonly known. Even if the logo was not stated at the lower right corner, people who looked at this would know right off of the bat what this was advertising.

Who is the primary audience of the advertisement or website? The primary audience consists of people who have money and will keep a balance with their credit

card (perhaps those who are responsible about their money, around 25+, and/or have a job).

  • What is the name of the company, organization or individual utilizing this website? http://www.ryanscherf.net/

The individuals name is Ryan Scherf. TEXTURE is being used in the design to: (Check all that apply) X Create a particular mood or feeling X Fill individual shapes or areas X Reinforce or support the concept of the design Please thoroughly explain your answer to the question above and analyze/describe how this

advertisement or website uses TEXTURE. A very outdoorsy feel is woven through the structure of the website, using textures similar to wood,

paint, paper, and dirt. It was if someone had taken a plank of wood and created a mountain range landscape image with paint and paper. There is a definite sense of being able to reach out and feel the elements if one were able to do so.

Please describe the effectiveness of the use of TEXTURE in this design. I believe that the texture was used effectively. It catches the viewers attention to the point where they want to investigate, and then eventually get caught in what the site is all about. Though it has that outdoorsy feel, it states that it is someones (Ryan Scherf) page about him being a designer (among other things). The connection, however, could be simply that he enjoys the outdoors and/or wanted to show off a sample of his design abilities so that others would want to acquire his services. The method works excellently in drawing in customers.

Who is the primary audience of the advertisement or website? Those that are in search of a new design, user interface, or redesign are the primary audience of

    this website.

  • What is the name of the company, organization or individual utilizing this website? http://www.marchanddetrucs.com/

The Marchand de Trucs (Merchant of Tips/Tips Merchant) is the company utilizing this website. BALANCE is being used in the design in the following way(s): (Check all that apply) X To create a mood.

__Symmetrical balance is reinforcing the messagesuch as; serious, conservative, sophisticated, stable, elegant, etc.

__Asymmetrical balance is reinforcing the messagesuch as; relaxed, informal, freeform, creative, etc.

__To create visual tension by being obviously unbalanced. Please thoroughly explain your answer to the question above and analyze/describe in your own

words how this advertisement or website uses BALANCE. The structure itself is balanced, the top banner balancing with the bottom, and the three middle

columns have equal weight on each side. Though they are not mirrored, they are still balanced by the weight that all the sides carry.

Please describe the effectiveness of the use of BALANCE in this design. I believe that the use of balance in this website is very effective, giving it a sense of organization, but with the freedom of being creative to catch the viewers eye. The artwork also adds to the appeal, being of a unique style as it balances out the layout. It gives it a sense of mystery and magic, as it should.

Who is the primary audience of the advertisement or website? The primary audience consists of people who enjoy performing or perhaps just the very thought of

magic tricks and who can understand French to some degree, though there are some English products available.

  • What is the product or service being advertised? The product being advertised is Wrigleys Extra Sugarfree Gum. CONTRAST is being used in the design in the following way(s): (Check all that apply) X Strengthen an idea; support the message. __To create a contradiction (BIG written in very small type). X Contrasting colors __Contrasting values X Contrasting shapes __Contrasting texture X Contrasting typography Please thoroughly explain your answer to the question above and analyze/describe in your own

words how this advertisement or website uses CONTRAST. To begin with, this is a very simple advertisement consisting of two subjects: the gumball and the

pack of gum. Both are in contrast to each other, the gumball being round, red, and angry with rigid lettering while the gum package is rectangular, blue, and has a cooler/calmer feel with a type to match.

Please describe the effectiveness of the use of CONTRAST in this design. I think that the contrast element in this advertisement works well in getting its message across. Sure, the designer could have added more to the picture, but the simplicity of it is all that was needed. It shows the viewer that they should get this product because its cool and refreshing in contrast to the red gumball character who is obviously angry and red hot with his rage. The hint of humor adds to the advertisements appeal, using it as a tool to reel in the viewers attention and interest.

Who is the primary audience of the advertisement or website? The primary audience of this advertisement is anyone who enjoys chewing gum and is perhaps in

the age range of 18-35 years.

  • What is the name of the company, organization or individual utilizing this website? http://www.polyesterstudio.com/#

Polyester Studios UNITY is being used in the design to: (Check all that apply) X Provide consistency X Unify the design with consistent elements (grouped/repeating elements) X Lead the viewers eye through the design Please thoroughly explain your answer to the question above and analyze/describe how this

advertisement or website uses UNITY. The use of unity obviously provides consistency, all the boxes and type being the same throughout.

It gives it a sense of organization, similar to that of a printed page. That could have been where the designer was heading since the Polyester group does print and animation design work. It links to the group, hinting at their profession every step of the way.

Please describe the effectiveness of the use of UNITY in this design. I believe that the use of unity in this design is very effective, catching the viewers eye in an instant. The designer utilized the groups main two colors to organize the box links as print or motion related, first of all, giving the viewer an easy way to determine which is which to look at. Not only is it color coded, but it is also organized in columns and rows instead of being scattered amongst the page. It had to be organized the way it is, anyway, due to how the panels open, making them appear like building blocks in a way. Sure, the main color that you see might give you a headache due to it being a bright red, but it still catches ones attention instead of being a bland color as it easily could be.

Who is the primary audience of the advertisement or website? The primary audience consists of potential clients to the group who wish to acquire the groups services.

This website uses value to create a mysterious and graceful feel about it, obviously utilizing the traits of a cat to emphasize its purpose.
