NYLON 66 Produced on FEB 28, 1935 by Wallace
Carother it was firstly used as a commerical nylon
bristled as a toothbrush in 1938 Nylon is general known as polyamide
There are two method of making nylon. I. The molecules with acid (-COOH) group
at each end.II. The molecules containing Amine (-NH2)
group at each end. They were named on basis of number of
carbom atom .
It generally contain Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen and Nitrogen.
It replace silk in Military application such as Parachutes and Flaks Vests, and was used in many types of Vehicles Tires
PROPERTIES OF NYLON66 Melting Temperature : 255 to 265 C Glass Transition (C) : Tg (Amorphous) Injection Molding Range F : 500-620 F Molding Pressure Range : 1000 to 25 000 psi 1 to 25 ksi Compression Ratio : 3.0 to 4.0 Mold Shrinkage (in/in) : 0.007 to 0.018 Compressive Strength (psi) : 12 500 to 1500PSi (Yielding)
HISTORY OF NYLON66 Nylon66 was first named as fiber66 . Then, the committee reformed the No Run
to Nylon, which remained till date. The name nylon is a combination of two
cities. It has repeating links that are connected
with amide bonds.
CHARATERISTICS OF NYLON66• It has good sliding properties• Is very abrasion resistant• Strong and tough• Rigid• Electrically insulating• Easily machined
MANUFACTURING OF NYLON66 Nylon66 is a product resulting from polymerization of Adipic acid and Hexamethylene diamine .
Hexamethylene Diamine , Adipic Acid and water for this feed stream
Backwash filter is recommended if contaminant concentration levels are high.
That will reduced polymerization efficiency and fiber quality.
The final product with a mol. Wt. range of 1200-1600 is extruded.
Then passes to the cutter for producing small chips suitable
storage and rehandling. When nylon fibers are produced, the chips are
melted through the high press pumps. The thread is stretched to about 4 times it’s initial
length in cold drawing to give the fiber of desirable textile properties.

ADVANTAGES OF NYLON 66 Higher tensile strength in use, Higher melting point. Excellent performance for tire applications, and High-speed mill processing
Excellent abrasion resistance makes nylon 66 polymer ideal for use in Carpets, Upholstery, and Conveyor belts.
USES OF NYLON 66• parachutes and fishing line• aircraft tire • floor covering applications• Tires and Conveyor Belts• Carpeting
