Acts 17 1 Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apol-lonia, they came to Thes-salonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews:

Paul went first to the Jews.

Jesus came unto His Own people, and they rejected Him as a nation.

Opportunity was still extended.

2-3 And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three Sabbath days reasoned with them out of the Scriptures, opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.

Christ = MessiahAfter three Sabbaths, he went to the Gentiles.

4 And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.

It's our responsibility to get the Gospel out.

Some will believe; many will not.

Don't get discouraged.

5 But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.

Apparently Paul was staying with Jason;

That opened him to attack.

6

Why were these unbelieving Jews envious?

Paul was getting too much attention.4 And some of them (Jews) believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.

They were going to drag Paul out of Jason's house and deliver him to the mob.

6 And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;

They had not yet turned the world upside down, but I'm sure it seemed

that way to these Jews.

7 Whom Jason hath received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus.

When they couldn't get Paul, they took Jason.

The Jews hated the rule of the Romans, but they were willing to use them to stop Christianity.

8 And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things. 9 And when they had taken security of Jason, and of the other, they let them go.

Money to assure that Jason would appear before the rulers with Paul.

10 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.

Again, Paul goes to the Jews first.

That was his pattern for a long time.

But when the majority of Jews rejected the Gospel, he went to the Gentiles.

Don't get discouraged!When a person you are concerned for rejects

the Gospel, go to many others.

Some will listen and believe.

We are responsible to tell the Good News of Jesus Christ.

We are not responsible for the response people make.

Keep on going and keep on telling.
