Wow, this past year has just flown by us all on the Tucson Parks & Recreation team! Summer is upon us and there are great elements of fun, fitness and a wide range of recreational activities being offered to you within these pages of our Summer Activity Guide. Across the City of Tucson's parkland, you will see an significant up-tick in the activity related to the Proposition 407 Parks and Connections bond-funded park improvements. You can keep updated easily as to the status of park improvements in your neighborhood parks by clicking onto the City

Free Summer Swim and Free Summer Recreation for Youth May 28-Aug. 5 The City of Tucson would like to invite kids to beat the heat and cool off at one of 19 city pools or 13 recreation centers throughout Tucson for free this summer. Youth under the age of 17 will pay no admission cost at centers during designated hours and City pools during recreational swim and family swim hours. All pools will be closed on Monday, May 25 and Friday, July 3. Summer Swim Lessons begin June 8. See page 11 for more information.

• Classes must meet a minimum enrollment by May 25, or they are subject to cancellation.However, you may still register for a class if it has not been canceled and space is available.

• On-line registration is no longer available after the first week of classes. Call Registration Services to register.

• Most fees for classes have a City of Tucson resident and non-City resident rate.

• Only those registered are permitted in class.

• Some children’s classes require only one adult in the room actively participating per one registered participant.

• For the safety and enjoyment of all participants, guests and family will not be allowed in the class area. Viewing areas are available at most locations.

• Children under the age of seven must be directly supervised at all times while in any facility.

• Participants must meet age criteria by the first class.

• KIDCO offers a payment plan. See page 7 for more KIDCO information or call 520-791-5912.

• We reserve the right to change class instructors. For leisure class instructor information call 520-837-8240.

• For leisure classes that allow drop-in, there will be no drop-in available for first class and after that only if space is available. Does not apply to Pottery and Jewelry Open Labs.

Refund PolicyTucson Parks and Recreation:• Reserves the right to cancel classes and KIDCO sites

due to insufficient registrants or other causes beyond our control. In the event a cancellation occurs, a full refund will be granted.

• Requires withdrawals to be processed through Registration Services beginning the first business day after online registration.

• Reserves the right to change class instructors and KIDCO staff.

The following fees shall apply to all transactions:• Refund processing fee: 10% of amount paid for class/

activities, or KIDCO monthly fee.• Returned check fee: $28.• Declined credit/debit card payment fee: $28.

Leisure and Aquatic Fitness ClassesAll leisure classes are subject to a 10% refund processing fee.• Participants withdrawing prior to the first class of the

Junior Zoo Keeper Sunday, May 24

Does your child (ages 6-12) want to be a Zoo Keeper? Through this interactive, hands-on program, your child will experience a snapshot of a day in the life of a Zoo Keeper. Travel behind-the-scenes to the Zoo’s kitchen to prepare a meal for one of the animals at the Zoo, watch a training demonstration with an animal ambassador, feed the giraffes, and even clean an animal night house. We will do and see it

Does your child dream of becoming a zoo veterinarian? Your child will travel behind-the-scenes to the Zoo’s state of the art, Animal Health Center for a day in the life of a Zoo Vet experience. Participants will utilize the Freeport-McMoRan Education Gallery to view the surgery, treatment, and pharmacy rooms of the Animal Health Center. They’ll experience first-hand the importance of math and science in diagnosing and treating animal ailments through hands-on activity stations that are based on real-life zoo scenarios. After they’ve finished helping all of their patients, they’ll earn their Dr. Zoo certificate! Advance registration is required.

Summer Camp at the Zoo! (Grades 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8)

June and JulyReid Park Zoo offers action-packed summer day camps for kids entering 1st-8th grades. Games, crafts, animal ambassador encounters, and behind-the-scenes opportunities–make this camp unlike any other. Participants will also see first hand how the Zoo’s Animal Care staff use STEM every day to care for the animals and why saving wild places and wildlife is so important. Advance registration is required, so head to ReidParkZoo.org. Scholarships are available!

The Zoo is home to a herd of African elephants. These elephants are the largest existing animals in the entire state of Arizona!
