Rocky Mountains •  located in the western part of North America,

extend from Alaska, through Canada to the southern part of the United States.

Rocky Mountains Lego Version Love Legos? Create your own version of a Canadian Physical Feature.

Kmail it to me and I will share with the class.

Great Lakes •  Hold more than 1/5 of the world's supply of fresh surface water. •  Four of the five lakes—Superior, Huron, Erie, and Ontario—form part of

the border between the US & Canada. •  The 5th lake, Lake Michigan, lies entirely within the US. •  Both Canada & the U.S. are concerned about pollution of the Great Lakes. •  In 1972, the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement was signed by Canada

& the U.S. pledging to clean up existing pollution. It also pledges to prevent future pollution of the lakes.

Weird, but true…

The Stanley Cup has its own bodyguard, but that doesn’t mean Canadian hockey champions haven’t put all kinds of different foods and drinks in it (everything from chocolate milk to popcorn and cereal!).

Hudson Bay •  is a large inland sea located in northern Canada.

The Hudson Strait connects the Hudson Bay to the Atlantic Ocean.

In summer….

…in winter

St. Lawrence River •  Connects Lake Ontario to the Atlantic Ocean. •  It also serves as the border between Ontario and

New York.

Atlantic Ocean •  Is located to the east of Canada.

Think Atlantic Ocean is closest to Atlanta

Pacific Ocean •  Is the world's largest ocean. •  It is located to the west of Canada.

Where does the Ocean go?? Atlantic Ocean Pacific Ocean

Artic Ocean Indian Ocean And just for fun to see if you know them….

Southern Ocean

Alberta, Canada •  Province in Canada that is home to most of Canada's oil &

natural gas resources. •  The energy industry is the main industry in this region. It

contributes a great deal to the economy. •  The Athabasca Oil Sands is a large area of sand. It is estimated

to contain billions of barrels of oil. It is also located in Alberta. •  It is very expensive to take oil out of the sand currently.

However, it could become a major source of oil in the future.

Canadian Prairies •  Found in western Canada and contain most of

Canada's farmland. •  The provinces in this area are known as the "Prairie

Provinces" and have a good climate for growing things like wheat and other grains.

9/8/15

4

Canadian Shield •  Is a region located in northern Canada. •  It has many mineral deposits including copper, iron,

lead, nickel, gold, silver, uranium, and zinc.
