Welcome to the second edition of the activale summerbrochure. This is the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s information brochure, listing allthe activities we are providing for children and young people during thesummer holiday season 2007.

You will find a range of activities, which are grouped by organisation aswell as in our Weekly Listing.

Athletics Summer Scheme, 'Norwich Union Star Track.'For children aged 8 to 15yrs, 'Star Track' delivers a structured and exciting athletics programme run by experienced coaches. 'First Step' has organised theevent in association with the Vale of Glamorgan Council and Barry & ValeHarriers Athletic Club. Star Track includes running, jumping and throwing, with international athletes as special guests. Participants will receive goody bagsand t-shirts.

Sports, Arts & Play Development

Music in the Vale Competition

Music in the Vale has been running for over 20 years.Recently the 'Solo Singer' and 'Instrumentalist of the Year'competitions have built-up an enviable reputation for givingyoung people the opportunity to perform in a friendly, nurturing, environment, with constructive written feedback provided by internationally acclaimed adjudicators.

On Saturday 10 November 2007, a new open class competition for 'Vocal Ensembles' is presented.

Singers must be aged between 10 - 22yrs in groups of 2 - 12performers. On Sunday 11 November, an 'InstrumentalEnsemble of the Year' open class is offered for ages 10 -20yrs in groups of 2 - 8.

Cynllun Athletau yr Haf, 'Norwich Union Star Track.'

Ar gyfer plant rhwng 8 a 15, mae 'Star Track' yn darparu rhaglen athletaustrwythuredig a chyffrous a gynhelir gan hyfforddwyr profiadol. Trefnir ydigwyddiad gan 'Cam Cyntaf' mewn cydweithrediad â Chyngor BroMorgannwg a Chlwb Athletau Harriers y Barri a'r Fro. Mae Star Track yncynnwys rhedeg, neidio a thaflu a bydd athletau sydd wedi cystadlu arlwyfan ryngwladol yn galw heibio fel gwesteion arbennig. Cystadleuaeth Cerddoriaeth yn y Fro

Mae Cerddoriaeth yn y Fro wedi cael ei gynnal ers dros 20 mlynedd bellach, ac yn ddiweddar, rhoddodd cystadlaethau 'Canwr Unigol' a'Offerynnwr y Flwyddyn' enw da i'r digwyddiad fel un sy'n rhoi cyfle i boblifanc gael perfformio mewn amgylchedd cyfeillgar ac anogol, a chaeladborth adeiladol ysgrifenedig gan feirniaid sydd wedi ennill bri rhyngwladol.

Ddydd Sadwrn 10 Tachwedd 2007, cyflwynir cystadleuaeth newydd dosbarth agored i 'Ensemble Lleisiol'. Rhaid i'r cantorion fod rhwng 10 a22 oed a pherfformio mewn grwp o 2 - 12. Ac ar ddydd Sul, 11 Tachwedd,cynigir dosbarth agored 'Ensemble Offerynnol y Flwyddyn' i blant rhwng10 ac 20 oed mewn grwpiau o 2 - 8.

Community CentresThe Vale of Glamorgan Council owns 22Community Centres that are managed on a dailybasis by volunteers via a Community Association.The Centres can be found in and around Barry,Penarth and across the rural Vale.

You may wish to hire a Community Centre for aparty celebration, training day and exhibitions.Alternatively, why not visit one to participate in avariety of activities.

Dyffryn Gardens Gerddi’r Dyffryn

Libraries Llyfrgelloedd

Coming soon to a library near you

This summer you can be wild about reading, the environment and wildlife, by joining in with the BigWild Read at all Vale of Glamorgan libraries.

The Big Wild Read is a free summer reading challenge aimed at children aged 4 - 12 years.

It will run from Saturday 14 July until Saturday 8 September and will take place at all libraries and mobile libraries in the Vale of Glamorgan.

You will be able to collect a Big Wild Read folder from your local library and collect stickers for reading books. On finishing the Big Wild Read challenge you will be awarded a splendid medal and certificate and there will be other goodies to collect along the way.

The Big Wild Read has close links with the BBC BreathingPlaces Campaign as well as with the Woodland Trust's

Tree for all Campaign. The Woodland Trust will beplanting new trees in woods all over the U.K. forevery book you read as part of your Big Wild Readchallenge.

All activities are Free! You need to book a ticket atyour library to avoid disappointment.

It's free to join your local library as well as to join theBig Wild Read.
