LEVEL LOW DOWN Foundation
The Prep students have been having a ball in our nature play area. A huge thank you once again to Angela, Vanessa and all those who helped create this very popular area.
Students have been busy exploring repetitive patterns during Maths and Investigations sessions this week and have been busy making all kinds of patterns using items from the collage area. The Prep teachers were so impressed by the students creativity. Keep up the great work Prep!
Year One
The Year 1s had a great time on Friday planning, designing and creating Kites in our Design and
Technology lesson. We began our lesson by brainstorming what materials we would need in
order to create these kites and then drawing what we wanted them to look like. We labelled
our diagrams and were able to modify or fix our kites if they were not
flying as well as they should! We also loved flying the kites outside at
the end of the day!
Year Two "Look what I found!" Thanks to our wonderful Year 2s, Oak Street Oval is now sparkly clean and litter free. On our return from the clean up, we made mandalas with some of the gorgeous natural items that we found along the path. In Maths, we have investigated 'Flip, slides and turns' and in English, the highlight of our week was using detailed descriptions in our fun watermelon activity.

Year Three Wow, the Year 3 classrooms have been a hive of activity this week with our mask making. It has been so fantastic to see such a wide variety of designs such as masquerade ball masks, animal masks, sporting masks, computer game masks and so on. In Maths, we have started looking at fractions such as halves, quarters, thirds, eighths and fifths. We have been creating our won little mini pizzas to compare these fractions. We have been writing some fabulous narrative stories in class (I wont be surprised if we discover some famous authors). Please remember to bring your diaries to school every day.
Year Four
Year 4 did a fantastic job at their belated Clean Up Australia Day event last Friday, picking up lots of rubbish and sorting it for recycling or landfill. We have been working extremely hard this week to build our understanding of decimals in maths and also to write detailed, informative reports on the continents of Australia, Africa and South America. We will be completing our published copies of these for homework next week. Parents please log onto Compass and click on the event “Year 4 Camp” to access the medical form which we MUST have returned to school in a hard copy by next Monday 20th March at the very latest. You can also sign consent and complete payment when you are ready. Thank you for your cooperation and prompt response to this request.
Year Five In Year 5 this week we have continued our studies on historical narratives and concentrated on using the 7 steps of writing and the narrative graph to plan our pieces. The 7 steps is to help us plan a narrative that is exciting, informative and interesting for our readers.
1. Plan 2. Sizzling start 3. Tightening tension 4. Dynamic dialogue 5. Show, don’t tell 6. Ban the boring 7. Exciting ending
This week we also started looking at using coordinates on a grid system to describe our locations in mathematics. We discussed the use of left, right, above and below in relation to the position of an object and how people’s view of an object changes depending on their locations. We also discussed using specific terminology and instructions to describe location such as ‘walk north 5 spaces’ instead of ‘walk straight’. History Expo: 22nd March 2:30pm-3:30pm

Year Six This week Year 6 held their first Economics Expo. We were fortunate enough to have 5 local visitors presenting their businesses to the students: Lew Rimington – Bendigo Bank Manager Georgie McLennan – Arbonne Bruce Clark – Pinchapoo Catherine Lamb – BPS Business Manager Ellie Hilton – BPS Canteen Manager Imogen Miller – Sanctuary Yoga Students were required to prepare at least 5 questions to ask each presenter. The answers will be included in their eventual Economics portfolio. It was a very exciting and informative morning
