Across School we have been celebrating Black History Month. Each class were asked to research a famous Sports Personality that changed the sporting world as we know it

today.

Our projects linked to Art, PSHE, RE, PE, History and English.

Foundation Stage spent time researching Jessica Ennis-Hill. They spent time watching videos of her accomplishments and composed their own running races on the field, even holding their own award ceremony!

Ash Class spent time researching Mo Farrah. Mo is the most successful British track athlete in modern Olympic Games history. He is the 2012 and 2016 Olympic gold medallist in both the 5000 m and 10,000 m.

Beech Class were given the chance to research Muhammed Ali, formerly known as Cassius Clay. They learnt about his career in boxing and his achievements when campaigning for race equality.

Beech Class also used different pencils and shading techniques to draw a picture of Muhammad Ali.

Hazel Class researched Athlea Gibson, an American tennis player and golfer. She became the first African American to win a Grand Slam title.

Holly Class researched Jack Leslie. He was called up to play for England but was dropped from the team when they discovered he was black.

Sycamore Class have been researching who Jessie Owens is. They found out that James Cleveland "Jesse" Owens was an American track and field athlete and four-time gold medallist in the 1936 Olympic Games.

Classes spent some time learning about Kamala Harris and why her appointment as Vice President was so important.

For Remembrance Day, Little Oaks made tissue paper poppies.

Ash Class worked together as a class to create a wreath using their handprints and paper poppies.

Beech Class used tissue paper and PVA glue to create a stained glass window, featuring a silhouette of a soldier or fighter plane.

Hazel Class used charcoal to create an image representing Remembrance Day. They also learnt about the poem ‘Poppy, Poppy’ and decorated each poem using water colour poppies.

Holly Class looked at the poem of ‘In Flanders Field’.

Sycamore Class used lines, tone and texture to recreate the missing parts of images showing soldiers at war.
