126 EUROMICRO Report Konrad Zuse. The opening address was given by Prof. Dr. Fritz KrUckeberg, the President of the GMD Board of Directors. A panel discussion was chaired by Dr. GUntsch, also Chairman of the Council of the GMD. Dr. GUntsch is also the leader of the Department on Data Processing in the Federal Ministry of Research and Technology. Dr. GUntsch also reported on the new Federal Funding Program on Data Processing and Informa- tion Technology. One of the resumes of the work- shop was that there should be more research ac- tivities in the Federal Republic on Computer Ar- chitecture and Computer Organization. It was al- so stated that Industry research is mostly medium term product oriented, and that it presently is difficult to organize larger projects at Univer- sities. R,H. ACM German Chapter Meeting End of 1979 the membership assembly of the Ger- man Chapter of the ACM was held in Bad Nauheim. The result of elections is: Chairman Dr. P. Schnupp (Softlab Munich), Vice-Chairman: Prof. Dr. H.-W. Wippermann (Computer Science Depart- ment of Kaiserslautern University), Secretary: Dr. Weicker (Siemens AG), Treasurer: Mr. Weyde. The out-going Vice-Chairman reported on meetings held by the German Chapter: "Reliable Software" (Bonn), "PASCAL" (Kaiserslautern University), "Data Base Technology" (Bad Nauheim), "Microcom- puting" (Munich), "Portable Software" (Erlangen), "Software Engineering" (Berlin), "Hardware for Software" (Konstanz). The out-going Secretary, Dr. Schimpf, reported the Chapter having 461 members. R.H.
