acids & bases day 4
TRANSCRIPT
You will Need:1. Acids & Bases Part 2 – Pages
1-8 – Picked up this week
2. Pencil,
3. Textbook pg. 196-197
1.Our world needs to stay within the “normal” range of pH in order to be healthy.
2.Both Acids and Bases can be corrosive.3.Acids and Bases can be beneficial and
harmful.4. Acids and Bases work just like positive
and negative numbers.5.Add an Acid (H+) to a Base (OH-) they
can neutralize each other.6.However, we NEVER want to do this with
very strong acids or bases or explosions would occur.

8. Bleach has a pH of about 13. If you mix a solution of 50% bleach and 50% water, what would be true about the pH of a the mixture?
A.It would be less than 7B.It would be between 7 and 13C. It would be greater than 13D. There is not enough info to solve
10. Suppose you had needed to neutralize a strong acid (pH2). Describe 2 ways you could do this safely.
11. Explain how OH- values and H+ values determine Acids and Bases.
12. Why is it important to be careful with the things that we put down the drain or that we let evaporate into our air? (3-4 sent.)
1.Work on Acids and Bases Parts 1 & 2 questions
#22 – has two answers#25 (NH4)2SO4
#24 “C” is listed twice – 2nd one should be a “D”
1.Using your Periodic Table as an Alphabet list:1.Create a list of animals and
calculate their cage number and mass
Animal Name
Cage Number
(Atomic #)
Mass of Animal
(Mass #)Li O N 3 + 8 + 7 =
187 + 16 +14 = 27
1. None - unless you have missing work
2. Acids and Bases – Parts 1 & 2 should be done by the END of class Today.
3. Atomic Zoo – Extra Credit – Tuesday - Jan. 8th, 2013
4. Enjoy your Winter Break!!!!!
