    RESEARCH TECHNIQUES:

    F Closely involved in setting up several diagnostic and research techniques in the Department of Paediatric Gastroenterology,

    Hepatology & Nutrition.

    F More recently biochemical techniques to carry out nutrient balance studies for patients with malabsorption syndromes have

    been set up.

    F An in-vitro organ culture system for human and rabbit intestine has been established for the first time. The technique has

    extensive applications to investigate pathogenesis of newer pathogens and effect of microbes and micronutrients on

    intestinal structure and function.

    F Diagnostic facilities for hepatitis viral infections (A to E). the proposed work is likely to provide useful information for

    decisions regarding introduction of hepatitis vaccines for children in the country.

    F Screening tests for metabolic liver diseases in children.

    COUNTRY PROGRAM PLANNING / IMPLEMENTATION :

    F Participating in the various research programs of Gastroenterology & Hepatology

    and worked for all the stages of project development i.e. conceptualisation;

    protocol development; implementation; monitoring and final analysis and

    evaluation of data. All these projects deal with the issues of majorpubl ic heal th importance (1980- t i l l da t e ) .

    F Involved as a principal consultant UNICEF (SIAD project) for the training of

    community health workers and implementation of diarrheal disease control

    program in 1984, 1985 and 1986 in tribal areas.

    F Resource person - IMA-MOHFW Program for training of physicians in modern

    diarrheal disease management (1986-1988).

    F Community Diarrheal Disease Program (1980-1984): Involved as a consultant in

    the training of paramedical personnel and voluntary health workers and running of

    COUNTRY PROGRAM EVALUATION:

    F Worked as consultant in a UNICEF sponsored study to evaluate four primary

    Health Care Program in India with successful Growth Monitoring (1986).

    F Process and impact evaluation of a NGO project Village Volunteer Project run by Gramin Sewa Sansthan to achieve mid-

    decade goals for women and children between May 8 and 16, 1995. The program evaluation exercise was funded by

    UNICEF.F Project Co-ordinator of Independent Evaluation of Universal Salt Iodization (November 20-30, 1995). This program

    evaluation was commissioned by the Government of Madhya Pradesh and carried out jointly by International Council for

    Control of Iodine Deficiency Disorders (ICCIDD) and INCLEN. It was for the first time in a developing country that the

    government invited an external agency for an independent evaluation of its public health program.
