accreditation: the uk standard for museums & galleries - the new approach
DESCRIPTION
Isabel Wilson is the project manager for the development of Accreditation. Isabel outlined the process and purpose of the development, the aims and philosophical underpinning, the new emphasis of the standard and the place of collections management within it. Robert Taylor is an Accreditation Committee member. He expanded on the necessary evolution and reassured delegates, giving the panel's perspective about what is expected from museums of varying shapes, scopes and sizes. Samuel Rowlands, Accreditation Manager, explained how Accreditation will work practically to help museums develop and outlined the timetable as Accreditation transfers to Arts Council England management.TRANSCRIPT

Accreditation Development Project Isabel Wilson
• To evolve it so it addresses current and future issues
• To embrace consumer view
• To make it more centrally useful to museums
• To streamline the process for participants
• To consult widely to ensure standard is appropriate
• To support strategic advocacy for museums
• To strengthen it as a benchmark; a badged award and as

Accreditation 2011 - new emphasis and approach
• Focus on organisational sustainability
(only ‘fit’ museums will survive – and not all of them!)
• Responsive to communities with service delivery and
development influenced by feedback
• Interest in ‘how’ doing things not just ‘what’ doing
• Less of a strait jacket
• Less of a discrete exercise
• Existing participants don’t apply from scratch
• Accreditation as a prompt and a framework to help
museums address resilience and relevance
![Page 7: Accreditation: The UK Standard for Museums & Galleries - The New Approach](https://reader036.vdocuments.site/reader036/viewer/2022062307/554abcdfb4c90580698b4896/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
