The University is split over twocampuses, the Bishop OtterCampus at Chichester and theBognor Regis Campus. Manystudents prefer to study at onecampus whilst living at the other.

Each campus has its own character but both areno more than a fifteen minute walk from thetown centres and both are close to local parks, offering plenty of green space in which to relax orsocialise. A shuttle bus runs a regular servicebetween the campuses.

City of ChichesterChichester is the county city of West Sussex. It is abustling, thriving city with a great choice of shops, cafes, pubs, art galleries, museums, cinemas, abowling alley and has a night club on its outskirts.North of Chichester are the South Downs andthe sea is a short bike ride from the campus. Onthe coast there is something for everyone; thehaven of Chichester Harbour; the wild, windswept beauty of East Head’s sand dunes; theclassic English seaside at Bognor Regis and theboho surfer vibe of the Witterings.

Chichester’s fantastic restaurants and bars includewell know chains such as Slug and Lettuce, PizzaExpress, Weatherspoons and ASK and quaint, exclusive bars such as La Havana and Woodies. Ifyou are looking for an alternative night out LaHavana offers an open-mic night on Wednesdaysand a live band night on Fridays. Thursday’snightclub is on the outskirts of the city and offers abus service to the club and back to the towncentre at the end of the evening. Tuesday nightsare student night and they often have themenights such as Wild West, Beach Party, etc.Chichester Gate is a leisure complex to the southof the city and provides a whole range of facilitiesand entertainment, including; a cinema, bowlingalley, bars and restaurants. Our Stockbridge Hallof Residence is located next to Chichester Gate.

Chichester is home to one of the UnitedKingdom’s flagship theatres, the Chichester FestivalTheatre, which hosts a wide range of theatricalproductions, from musicals and comedies toclassic dramas. Along with the Chichester FestivalTheatre, the city also boasts the Minerva Theatre,New Park Film Centre and a myriad of smallerarts centres. If you are interested in the arts thereare plenty of places to visit such as the ChichesterDistrict Museum and the Pallant House Gallery, home to one of the best collections of 20thcentury British art in the country.

Chichester is also home to a variety of sportsclubs. The Westgate Leisure Centre can be foundto the west of the city with facilities including aswimming pool, a fitness suite, squash courts andaerobics studio.

Bognor RegisAward winning beaches make Bognor Regis oneof the most popular seaside resorts on the southcoast. The beach is popular with watersportenthusiasts and sun worshippers.

Located not far from the town centre, HothamPark is where the creator of Bognor, Sir RichardHotham, built his house in 1792. The house issurrounded by gardens and specimen trees fromaround the world. The grounds are open to thepublic and include a picnic area, play area, miniature railway, tennis courts, boating lake, putting green and rose garden.

Hotham Park offers relaxing walks among thetrees and, during the summer, look out for livemusic and entertainment on the bandstand.

Bognor has a wide variety of pubs and restaurantsall situated in the town centre and close to theUniversity campus. There are many music venuesand nightclubs in Bognor Regis such as Club Visionthat are popular with students. Off Campus Accommodation

As an alternative to living on-campus you may wish to considerthe off campus accommodationavailable. Chichester, Bognor Regisand the surrounding area has alarge number of properties andhousing suitable for students.

These include Private Rented, Homestay andPrivate Home Accommodation. Private RentedAccommodation is a property rented from aLandlord. Usually a group of students or friendsget together and rent a property (or a room in aproperty). You can search for available propertiesvia our Studentpad website(www.studentpad.co.uk/chichester). If you registerwith Studentpad then you will receive regular e-mail updates on any new properties that becomeavailable. All the properties advertised have beeninspected by a member of the AccommodationTeam.

Private Home Accommodation is similar tolodging; you will rent a room in a local landlord’sproperty. This may be worth considering as thereare several advantages. The rent is generallycheaper and bills are often included in the rent.Owner occupied properties are generally kept inbetter repair than rented properties. You do nothave to commit yourself to a long-term contract, often you can arrange to stay for as little as twoweeks. This means if things are not working outthen you can end the arrangement fairly painlessly. There is no such thing as a typical residentlandlord. Some are young professionals or recentgraduates, others are middle aged couples andsome are retired. Although most students’ firstpreference would probably be to share with otherstudents, it is worth considering the advantages ofthis arrangement.

Homestay landlords are resident landlords, oftenwith children and/or pets, offeringaccommodation inclusive of meals and theopportunity to live as part of their family. It is avery popular option with International studentswho may be looking to improve their languageskills. Occasionally you may be asked to pay adeposit when renting a room and many hosts willrequire a retainer fee or full rental fee if you areaway on holiday but still wish to retain the room.

If you require any help or advice when looking foroff campus accommodation you can contact ourAccommodation Office or look on theStudentpad website. The team can offerinformation on what to look for in a property, housing costs and tenancy law. A checklist can alsobe printed off as a guide on what to look for whenvisiting properties. There is also a student messageboard which allows you to contact otherUniversity of Chichester students to look forpotential sharers or if you have a vacancy in yourproperty to advertise.

On your arrival you will be asked to sign a roominventory and your room will be checked againstthis information on your departure.

Please note that if you are unsuccessful in attainingthe necessary grades for entry to the University ofChichester a full refund will be given.

Basic insurance cover is included in the cost ofyour room.

Please be aware that the Residential LicenceAgreement you sign when you take up Universityaccommodation is a legally binding contract.

Although we have twin rooms for couples on ourBognor Regis campus, where both parties arestudying with us, unfortunately, we do not providerooms for spouses, partners or family members.
