What is the Access course?

A one year foundation course for students who might:-

be undecided about a future direction / course or career

be uncertain about achieving the grades needed for A levels or

advanced courses

The access course will support you throughout the year. You will

study a range of qualifications including Cambridge Technical Digital

Media, BTEC Enterprise and Business and English and Maths. On

completion of the programme we will support you as you prepare

for the next stage, whether it is applying for an apprenticeship, ap-

plying to college for further education at college or staying with us

in Taverham Sixth Form. The sky’s the limit! For more information

Core Maths What is the Core Maths course?

A brand new two year Level 3 course:-

Aimed at students with a grade 4 or above in GCSE maths who

want to take the subject further.

Helps to develop students’ mathematical skills and thinking.

Supports courses such as A-level Psychology, Sciences and

Geography as well as technical and vocational qualifications.

You will study Data Analysis, Personal Finance, Critical Path and

Risk Analysis.

The title of this Core Maths Qualification is ‘AQA Certificate Lev-

el 3 Mathematical Studies’. Although it is a two-year qualifica-

tion, it carries the equivalent UCAS points as an AS Level.

approach to the consideration of moral and philosophical issues. Students study the theories of philosophers such as Plato, Socrates, Aristotle and Aquinas to contemporary

Philosophy and Ethics is highly regarded by Universities and employers as it proves your ability to think logically, discuss and evaluate. It is excellent preparation for any

Why study Music?

This course will appeal to students who want to enrich their appreciation and enjoyment of music. It will prepare those students who wish to study music

further and those who wish it to remain a life-long interest. The Music A Level course allows students to investigate, analyse and evaluate music and its features. The set works enable students to conduct in depth studies into

different musical styles, all supported by practical and compositional elements.

What skills to be gained by studying Music?

Studying Music will help you to develop key skills in performing, composing, theory, listening and analysing. You will learn how the great Classical compos-

ers approached their music, as well as studying other styles.

BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Sound Engineering / Digital Music Production

(Equivalent to one A Level)

Course:

The course provides an introduction to study of music technology offering learners

the opportunity to specialise in sound engineering or digital music production. It is

designed to provide learners with a good introduction to the sector with a focus on

recording and the development of musical skills, performance and professional

practice.

There are two mandatory units, which cover the following aspects of sound

engineering:

· Studio recording techniques

· Digital audio workstation (DAW) production.

You will be able to add three optional units, from a choice of four, to the mandatory

content. These have been designed to support your progression to a range of em-

ployment opportunities in digital music production and to higher education courses.

Optional units will introduce you to sector specialist areas of your choice, including

working in particular environments, and link with relevant technical roles.

The optional units cover areas such as:

· Live sound

· Working and developing as a production team

· Mixing and mastering techniques

· Studio design and techniques

Music Technology The Digital Music Production Sector:

From chart successes and download sales to live performances and record-

ing studios, the music industry is a global industry and the UK punches well

above its weight. Sales of music, concerts, publishing and related revenue

contributed £4.1 billion to the UK economy, with exports of £2.2 billion in

2015. Figures also show a year-on-year rise in employment since 2012, with

a reported 119,020 jobs in the music industry in 2015.

What this qualification could lead to:

This qualification will prepare you for direct employment in the digital music

production sector. Jobs include; Music producer , Remixer, Sound designer,

Sound engineer, Audio restorer/digitiser/archiver.

The qualification carries UCAS points and is recognised by higher education

providers for courses such as; BA (Hons) in Music Technology , Production,

Sound Arts and Design and Digital Music.

Politics is a really flexible choice with many students who have taken the A-

level in Politics going on to study Politics, International Relations or PPE at

university. From there you might become a researcher, join local or national

government or even start on the path to become a future Prime Minister!

But there are other job options too. If you fancy a career in Journalism or

the Media, this course is very useful. Students also go on to become teach-

ers or work in the legal profession.
