-New equipment The Thermovision 450 enables Ford engineers to measure temperature variations between - 2 0 ° C and 500°C with a sensitivity of 0.1°C at 30°C. Whilst such sensitivity is rarely required, it does enable users to detect immediately the smallest changes in component temperature. The system is equipped with a high definition monochrome viewfinder with a resolution of 400 lines and 5, 10, or 128 selectable levels of grey scale.

A separate video output on the system enables Ford to record images on a Sony Video Walkman for detailed analysis later in the office. A video print of the thermal image is useful for recording hard copies of results which can be reproduced in subsequent reports.

Accelerometer range

Schenck has extended its range of accelerometers with the AS-030 pick-up designed for a wide range of industrial applications. It employs secure 'fast on' spade terminals enabling the user to prepare tailor-made cables quickly and cost-effectively prior to installation. In addition, a single silicon cap gives IP 65 terminal protection.

For use in extremely hostile environments, a dome made of special steel (1.4436) gives additional protection against damage. This makes the AS-030 suitable for applications in the food, off-shore, chemical, paper and textile industries.

The AS-030 has a sensitivity of 100 mV g - l , within a temperature range of - 3 0 ° to +110°C. It has a resonance frequency of 35 kHz and an operating frequency range of 1 Hzto 15kHz (_+3dB).

Extra-miniature u Itrasonic t ransducer series

An Extra-Miniature Series (XMS) ultrasonic immersion transducer with a case diameter of only 3 mm by 3 mm has been introduced by Panametrics. These transducers are suitable for tight access areas or for multi-element array inspections. The transducer assembly has a Microtech connector attached to the 1 m long potted cable. A Microtech to BNC or Large Lemo adapter is also available to interface with most commercial ultrasonic equipment.

The XMS Series is available in 10 MHz and 15 MHz for use with most commercial pulser/receivers and flaw detectors.

High capacity digital recorder

The DX-2000E DAT image recorded from Mitsubishi provides high capacity digital storage for documents and high quality colour images ranging from microscopy to most video image storage applications.

The recorder is capable of storing up to 11 37 colour images, 1804 monochrome images or 830 RGB images on a single tape. It provides a resolution of up to 500 lines in RGB and because of the digital concept is able to output crisp and steady images onto a display monitor.

With a sampling frequency of 14.2 MHz and a video bandwidth of 4 M Hz for composite video or 6 MHz for RGB and monochrome, image production is true to the original document.

The unit takes composite, analogue RGB and S-video (y/c) inputs and operates with standard 120 min DAT cassettes. Features include remotely controlled record and play with digital dubbing available as an option.
