All Saints School was established in 1989 to provide a quality Catholic Education to the students of Albany Creek, Eatons Hill and surrounding areas. It has grown into a medium size school of over 700 students.

The committed and caring staff, work closely with parents to provide a well-rounded education for its students. All Saints School has embraced the Australian Curriculum as well as the latest research in how to improve student learning.

All Saints School has a comprehensive Religious Education pro-gram. The faith life of all students is nurtured through oppor-tunities to be involved in prayer and liturgy, as well as being in-volved in opportunities to support the different charity groups within our community.

All classrooms are air conditioned to enhance the environment for student learning. There are two computer labs – once mac and one PC. All classrooms have access to laptops, desktops, iP-ads and iPods. Year 5 and 6 students are are involved in a one to one iPad program. Year 6 students now visit Canberra each year. Our library has ten learning spaces to provide a range of differ-ent learning environments for our students. There are extensive grounds and covered spaces for outdoor learning.

There are comprehensive music, instrumental music and sports programs available for all students. Students can join a variety of choirs, learn a string, woodwind, brass or percussion instrument, as well as have an opportunity to learn the recorder and ukulele in classroom music lessons. All Saints students are involved in both State and Catholic Sport competitions.

As the school is expanding, there are some vacancies in many year levels for 2015.

A fond farewell to Peter Campbell - Mr Albany Creek

There are few local Albany Creek residents who won’t know the name Peter Campbell.

Our most respected and loved friend passed away recently and for the hundreds who attended his memorial service he will be greatly missed.

Peter grew up on a poultry farm near Albany Creek, the place that had been home to the Campbell clan since the late 1800s.

Peter’s love of Albany Creek, its history, its people and yarns can be seen when reading “Yarns of Yesteryear”, the collection of stories, poems and yarns that Peter published, tells the story of the place he loved so much. (You will find a turn page copy of Yarns of Yesteryear on the Buzz website).

Peter’s early formative years were spent at Albany Creek State School and then Wavell High School.

He started his own Real Estate agency in 1970. In those days Albany Creek was a small hamlet out in the sticks, with cows grazing in fields in the middle of the village.

Peter’s successful business grew alongside the suburb that he loved. Peter invested his time and energy in building much of the infrastructure, land estates and community services that we enjoy today. Over the years he became the face of Albany Creek and was often seen in his early model green Ford Fairmont cars, which he drove around the area for over 40 years.

A young Peter Campbell inspects a kerb in the early 70s. More than anyone else Peter was the man who helped build Albany Creek into the suburb we know today.

Peters lifetime of service to the Albany Creek Community was acknowledged with an Order of Australia in 2007

Throughout his life Peter was involved in so many local charities and he gave so much back to the community he loved, his achievements are too numerous to list but here are a few of his many awards:

• Paul Harris Fellowship Award

• Real Estate Institute of Qld Fellow

• Justice of the Peace

• Patron of the Albany Creek Garden Club

• Patron of the Albany Creek Girl Guides

A modest and humble gentleman, Peter would lend his time and support to anyone who needed a helping hand.

Peter’s generosity and enthusiasm were constant, from the Albany Creek Scouts, the High School, Lions and Rotary, Music Awards, Art Alliance, Kindergartens, Community

Centres and many more. Few missed out on Peter’s support and generosity.

It was a privilege to have known Peter Campbell. I knew him during the time he was battling illness and I was always amazed at his capacity to be happy and positive.

Of course Peter’s first love was his family and it is they who are in our thoughts as they remember their beloved husband, father and grandfather.

His son Matt and daughter Janie continue his Real Estate legacy and have recently moved to new premises on Albany Creek Road, we wish them well.

After Peter’s passing I feel Albany Creek will never be quite the same again, but for those of us who knew him, we will never forget Peter Matthew Langley Campbell, or as I like to think of him ‘Mr Albany Creek’.

Interact Clubs supporting our local communityUnder the guidance of the Albany Creek Rotary Club students at Albany Creek State High School and Genesis Christian College at Joyner have formed Interact Clubs which help support the local and international community.

Interact stands for International Action and the students help with fundraising activities including ‘Shelter Box’ which are aid packages sent to disaster areas throughout the world.

This fantastic initiative allows young people to realise the value and rewards that come with helping those less fortunate than themselves.

Other Interact Club activities include, sending uniforms to orphanage schools overseas, running fundraising competitions and helping out the Albany Creek Rotary Club with fundraising events such as parking cars at the Decades Festival.

The Albany Creek–Bracken Ridge Group of the Australian Breastfeeding Association helps to support, educate and advocate for a breastfeeding inclusive society. We help mothers who wish to breastfeed by providing mums with practical mother-to-mother support and information.

Our local group runs a mothers group which is held the first Wednesday and third Thursday of each month (except Dec & Jan) at Strathpine Community Health Centre and Albany Creek Library. Our meetings have varied topics and encourage discussion about parenting & breastfeeding, allowing mums to share experiences. Everyone is welcome, and it is a great way to connect with other mums and trained Breastfeeding Counsellors. Justine Gibson has advised that the $500 Community Grant will assist with the ongoing expenses of running a volunteer organisation and with counsellor education.

Turia Pitt, a woman synonymous with an inspiring tale of courage and survival, will be the special guest speaker of the inaugural Inspiring Women, luncheon hosted at the Belvedere Hotel on Friday, 27 February 2015.

An initiative of Our Village Foundation, Inspiring Women is a series of extraordinary networking events acknowledging the remarkable achievements of women and the important role they play in the Moreton Bay community.

At its helm, Corporate Relations Manager, Alison Kennedy, is excited to provide this unique opportunity to likeminded women to learn and leverage off each other in an intimate setting and is thrilled to have Turia as the first guest speaker.

“Anyone that has heard of the inspiring story of Turia Pitt will understand just how qualified she is to kick-off our first Inspiring Women Luncheon,” Alison explains.

In September 2011, Turia Pitt, a beautiful 25-year-old mining engineer working her dream job in the far north of Western Australia, entered an ultra-marathon race that would change her life forever. Trapped by fire in a gorge in the remote Kimberly region, Turia escaped with catastrophic burns to 65 per cent of her body.

Since, Turia has endured countless operations and as a true testimony to her character and strength, Turia has gone on to achieve great things. These include being named the ‘NSW Premier’s Woman of the Year’; a finalist for ‘Young Australian of the Year’; gracing the cover of the Australian Women’s Weekly and is a well-recognised humanitarian.

Registrations open for 2015 Jetty 2 Jetty Fun Run Whether you train all year round, or have set yourself a new fitness goal for 2015, it’s time to pull out your running shoes and start training for the Jetty 2 Jetty Fun Run.

The region’s most popular fun run is back in 2015, and online registrations for the Jetty 2 Jetty open Monday, 23 February.

With four race categories, including the half marathon (21km), 10km, 5km or 3km, Race Director Kate Jackson guarantees that there is a race to suit everybody, and every fitness level.

“Over 4,000 runners take part in the Jetty 2 Jetty each year, and we have people running for all different reasons; whether to challenge themselves, beat their time last year, or to have a bit of fun,” she said.

For the first time in 2015, Jetty 2 Jetty will offer a cash prize pool valued at $6,800 to attract serious runners from throughout South-East Queensland.

The prize pool for the half marathon is available to male and female winners, with a massive $1,000 for first place, $600 for second place and $400 for third place.

“This is the first time we have been able to offer prize money, and it’s about time that we offer this to the more serious runners who compete on the annual running calendar,” explains Kate.

“Each year we see a diverse range of people, of all ages, having a bit of fun – with everyone from BallyCara residents, mother groups, businesses and fitness groups – it really is such a varied group of participants which is just great to see,” said Kate.

For the first time this year, each entrant in the half marathon or 10km category will receive a free Jetty 2 Jetty singlet as part of their registration. Entrants in the 5km and 3km categories will receive a Jetty 2 Jetty visor.

Les’s Driving Passion!To say Les Hanifin likes cars is like saying Richie Benaud likes cricket.Les has spent his life around cars and owns several service centres including Hanos Car Care in Albany Creek. So what sort of hobby does Les have? He collects cars, but not just any car, this Albany Creek local has some of the most sort after muscle cars in Australia.Here are the 3 cars Les loves the most.The Purple car is a 1971 XY Ford Falcon an aussie musle car built in Sydney, I purchased the car 2 yrs ago it was a winner of Summernats in 2010, the biggest car event in Australia. It won grand champion the car was a full blown show car known as blowjo. Its previous owner had spent $250.000 plus on the build. After buying the car Hanos Car Care rebuilt the car to make it a streetable driver. We have only just finished the rebuild, it now runs a 393 cube Cleveland Stroker with cross over injection, Fully Adjustable coil overs,4 link rear end, C4 Auto fully manualised, 4 wheels disc brakes, 20inch wheels, the engine is a 600hp performance motor. The complete under body of the car is fully smoothened. This model is a real Aussie Icon and proudly serviced by Hanos.

The silver car is a 1955Chev Belair two door pillarless sports coupe. It was originally an American car imported to Brisbane and had a full body off resto. It now runs an LS Injected motor making 500HP with a 4L60E 4 speed auto, 4 wheel disc brakes, 20inch wheels, electric windows, Air Con. The car was rebuilt in 2010 and has won many car shows. Its one of my collection that I drive regularly. The car is serviced and repaired and all upgrades done at Hanos Car Care.

The cream car is a 1955 FJ Holden out of GMH in Sydney. Its my first Collector car, this car was rebuilt back in 1995 to its Original show room finish keeping it stock standard with no mods apart from a set of wheel trims this car has also won lots of awards the FJ Holden is Holdens second model the first being the FX.
