2. Practice p.60: Summarize “watch and fertility”

Falling levels of fertility have generally been found in rich countries. This may cause two

results: smaller population and increasing of older people. However, recent research

claims that fertility rate has started to increase when they compare HDI which assesses

life expectancy average income and education level with the fertility rate.

1. Practice p.108 “Exploration of Space”

Some people believe that exploration has spent huge amount of money but with little

result. Because there have been no direct benefits from space travel and a lot of the

advances of space exploration bring us is irrelevant to daily life. Although hundreds of

billions has paid for space exploration. Instead, it could be used to increase the efforts to

combat terminal illnesses or to battle pollution,allocate the for education and urgent

needs on Earth. Moreover, as Soroka (2000) claims that national space programs are

testing potential weapons. The evidence suggests that Iran’s and North Korea’s ambition

will poison world’s peaceful relationship. However, one view is that space exploration is

worthwhile for many reasons. It will add to man’s scientific knowledge and help the

advance of science. As a result, space engineering has produced many useful discoveries,

for example, satelite communication serving for commercial transactions and

telecommunication services. Additionally, the laser-target of mirrors left on the Moon by

Appollo astronauts helps test and understanding basic physics. Therefore, space

exploration is worthwhile because of those achievement and the posibilities that science

and technology are to unravel.

An increase of 25% in the price of oil would have numerous results. First, it would lead

to the cost of transport and freight rises. As a result, airline profits could drop. Second,

the rising fuel price would create the decrease of oil consumption. Therefore, demand for

alternative fuels may rise. Third, there would be the increased investment in oil

exploration because of the rising demand for oil rigs. Finally, the falling demand for large

cars might result the increased demand for small cars.
