• The LASBO Academy is a virtual learning experience, with courses held bi-
weekly from June 18 – December 17. LASBO will not host any in person
meetings in 2020. LASBO is committed to providing quality educational ex-
periences for its members. The LASBO Academy allows members to learn
and grow through a virtual platform.
• Attendees are able to transfer their registration from Spring Conference.
The cost will be $225 for members and $255 for non-members.
• Registration is available through the LASBO Website.
• All attendees who participate in every course will receive a certificate of
completion from LASBO in December.
• Course instructors will provide CPE codes throughout the instruction in
order to maintain accountability and participation by attendees. Attendees
will be required to record the special codes online in their YM profiles.
These codes will be verified before issuing proper credit for each course.
• Completed online evaluation forms will also be required in order to obtain
credit for each course.

HOW TO ACCESS LASBO ACADEMY
LASBO will be utilizing the Zoom Platform to facilitate all courses on
the LASBO Academy. You may have to download Zoom if you do not
currently have it installed.
• A live link will be sent out to the email you registered one hour
prior to each course.
• Zoom 5.0 will be required for all courses.
• Course Handouts can be accessed using this link.

• LASBO will send the link to you with a deadline and the link to the CPE claim form
• You have 5 business days to watch the webinar and complete the CPE Claim form.
• On the fifth day if you have not completed your claim form you will be emailed a reminder.
• If after the fifth day deadline you have not completed it, request access again and your five day turn around will start over

To get credit for your CPE Hours, you are required to complete the CPE Attendance form on YM within 30
minutes of the conclusion of the course. Throughout the course, the speaker will give four codes. You will
be required to include those codes on the form for proper credit. All CPE forms will be processed and
applied to your account within 10 business days of submission.

Course 1: How to Stay Motivated and Healthy During a Pandemic—Denise Ryan
Denise Ryan helps light the fires of enthusiasm so people can do great things. She is an
author, an MBA and a CSP (Certified Speaking Professional), a designation of excellence
held by less than 10% of professional speakers.
Her programs have been heard by audiences around the country – ranging from school
business officials to federal prison employees! She has spoken for SASBO as well at several
statewide ASBO meetings (from Washington State to Florida) as well as for IBM, Wells Far-
go, and the US Department of Homeland Security.
She made Meeting & Convention Magazine’s list of planners’ favorite speakers alongside
Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Anderson Cooper.

Course 2: Reaction to the Legislative Session—Robert Hammonds
Mr. Hammonds is a founding partner of the Law Firm of Hammonds, Sills, Adkins &
Guice, LLP, which has offices in Baton Rouge, Monroe, and Bossier City. He received his
B.S. degree in Business Law in 1976 and his J.D. degree in 1978 from Louisiana State
University, where he attended as a Top 100 Scholar. Since 1978, Mr. Hammonds has
practiced almost exclusively in the field of public school law. He has represented school
boards and their staffs throughout the state in all kinds of school law litigation, includ-
ing desegregation cases, employment discrimination cases, special education cases,
and tenure hearings. He serves as General Counsel to the Louisiana School Boards As-
sociation and represented LSBA and its member boards in litigation before the Louisi-
ana Supreme Court which struck down State 8g funding of parochial schools and in liti-
gation which struck down State MFP funding of voucher schools. Mr. Hammonds is a
member of the Baton Rouge and Louisiana State Bar Associations, the National School
Boards Association Council of School Attorneys, and serves as President of the Louisi-
ana School Attorneys Association. He has been a frequent guest lecturer at state univer-
sities and education seminars and has provided hundreds of training sessions to school
board members, superintendents, principals, teachers, and others on issues related to
the performance of their duties.

Course 3: Update on the CARES Act—Freddy Smith, Louise Henry, and Don McLean
Freddy Smith, CPA, CGMA, is a Director in the P&N Accounting and Assurance Services Group. He joined the
firm in 1989. Freddy serves as the leader of the firm's Governmental Niche Team. Freddy’s audit and ac-
counting experience includes working with school boards, parish and municipal governments, and state
government entities. Freddy has enhanced the firm’s specialization in governmental accounting and au-
diting by obtaining the AICPA's Certificate of Educational Achievement in Governmental and Non-Profit Ac-
counting and Auditing. He has assisted several clients in attaining GFOA's Certificate of Excellence in Finan-
cial Reporting. Additionally, Freddy’s attainment of the Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA)
designation has broadened his and the firm’s perspective of global accounting and economic issues
affecting state and local governments. Freddy also has substantial experience assisting government agen-
cies with the compilation of Annual Financial Reports (AFR).
Louise Henry, CIA, CFE, is an Associate Director in P&N's Consulting Services Group. She joined the firm in
2008. With over 10 years in public accounting, Louise has extensive experience in conducting and oversee-
ing fraud investigations and providing added value to clients through services related to fraud detection,
deterrence, prevention, monitoring, and data analytics. Louise also has extensive experience in conducting
and supervising internal audits of controls and business processes, performing assessments to mitigate risk,
overseeing the execution of internal audit plans, and communicating results to audit committees and senior
management. Louise has served clients in a variety of industries including governmental, healthcare, non-
profit, and higher education as well as in the area of disaster management.
Don McLean, CPA, is a Director in the P&N Accounting and Assurance Services Group. He joined the firm in
2015. Prior to joining P&N, Don worked for a Baton Rouge-based CPA firm for 15 years and worked for the
State of Louisiana for seven years. Don's professional experience includes performing and supervising au-
dits for clients in a variety of activities including governmental, non-profit, construction contractors, and
other commercial entities. Don also has extensive experience in all aspects of an audit engagement includ-
ing planning, staff supervision, evaluating and testing of internal controls, substantive audit testing, compli-
ance test of state and federal laws, guidelines and circulars required with grant awards, and preparation of
financial statements and note disclosures.

Course 4: Federal Grants and Relief Funds—Kenya Jenkins, Bernell Cook, and Randy Littleton
Kenya Jenkins is the Director of the Division of Grants Management at the Louisiana Department of Educa-
tion. She completed her bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Sciences, Master’s of Education degree in Admin-
istration and Supervision and +30 in Special Education – Mild/Moderate Disabilities at Southern University
A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA. She began her work at the Department working with the federal pro-
gram, Supplemental Education Services (SES). She currently manages the division that provides school sys-
tems with fiscal support and guidance, the grants management helpdesk and she continues to oversee the
programmatic efforts with the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers, High Cost Services,
the Education Excellence Fund and the Trauma Recovery Demonstration Grant. Her passion is helping chil-
dren and her work at the Department allows her to ensure that the students with the greatest academic,
social and emotional needs are being served. You can reach her at [email protected].
Bernell Cook is the Director of the Division of Federal Programs, in the Office of Fiscal Operations and Fed-
eral Support at the Louisiana Department of Education (LDE). With an extensive and robust career in educa-
tion, he has been with the Louisiana Department Education (LDE) for approximately seventeen years. In his
current leadership position, he facilitates the effective implementation of several federal programs: Title I,
Part A, C, and D, Title II Part A, Title III Part A, Title IV, Part A, Title V, and Title IX, under ESSA. As Director,
these responsibilities also include supporting the LDE’s design, training, and approval process of new Super
Application. He also is responsible for the coordination and data validation of the Consolidated State Per-
formance Report (CSPR) submission to the USDOE. Bernell currently serves on the Board of Directors for
the National Association of State Title I Directors as treasurer. He has a Master’s degree in Education Ad-
ministration and Supervision from Southern University, A & M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Via alter-
native certification, he achieved NCLB’s Highly Qualified status in Secondary Mathematics (2007). A former
middle and high school mathematics and science teacher, he also holds a Bachelors of Science degree in
Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Mathematics. Bernell resides in Louisiana’s capital, and enjoys
spending time with his precious wife and daughter.
Randy Littleton is a Supervisor in the Division of Grants Management at the Louisiana Department of Educa-
tion. He completed his bachelor’s degree in Business Education at Louisiana College and his master’s de-
gree in Counseling and +30 in Administration/Supervision at Northwestern State University of Louisiana. He
has taught business courses as an adjunct professor for two universities, technology course for LDOE, and
elementary Special Education. He has also served as assistant principal, principal, and supervisor of elemen-
tary curriculum. He currently works directly with the fiscal staff of Grants Management and serves as a rep-
resentative of the Grants Management Helpdesk. In addition to spending time with his family, Randy enjoys
