Academic Update - December 2012

● HSD/GED #1 Position in Job Corps Ranking

● TABE % Improved remarkably over the past year.

● Improved Classroom Management

● Overall improvement in engaging students in the classroom.

● Improved Safety Practices

Needs further Improvement ….

● More Applied Academics (including projects with Trades)

● Improved Extended Programs – reach more students.

Periods. Oftentimes students complete trades and have no HSD . Unless f/t trade was approved, students must attend their academic classes and work on completing Academics simultaneously with trades.

● Hold students accountable for missing classes, unacceptableperformance and for dress code violations.

● More application of multi-media, technology in the classroom (Doc camera, projector……

● More serious commitment to completing requirements, including lesson plans, Tars, timely Incident reportsand case notes.

● Monthly Applied Academic Projects – reported on

the last report to the Academic Manager for the month.

● Monthly GED /HS Seminars – to be held on the 2nd. PayMonday of each month.

● GED Advisory Board – each one bring one. This Board will meet monthly.

● An Academic Mentor – related event. One per quarter ?

● Strong on Accountability & we should too.

● Work together. Don’t need to put one down to lift one self up.

● Communicate, be respectable to one another.

Share a quote from his presentation the day he arrived on center 11/28/12& I chose to mention it here as we have several relatively new staff with usIn this department.

He said, “Regardless of how long you have been on the job …Don’t count the time … Make the time count….”

Policies & Procedures

● Spend time during the break and re-read the policiesand procedures you agreed to upon joining the GJCC.

● Remember the reporting protocol via –a-vie your position in the department, GJCC on the whole.

● Revise policies with respect to your relationship with other staff, supervisor, management and students.

● Questions, concerns, etc. Make appointment with your manager to address, rather than less appropriatemethods of resolving matters. Try this!

ASSESSMENTS

● DOL in February 2013

● Corporate in January 2013

It is important that you keep your areas/classroomsinspection ready at all times. This was we will be ready for any and all Visits, with or without notice.

Safety Reports – please make sure that these are up to date. Conduct weekly inspection of your areas. Submit work orders as necessary and keep documentation.
