EAST DECA TAKES ON N ASHVILLE

4/29/16 The East DECA students had a successful trip to Nashville this past week. The DECA ICDC (International Career Development Conference) host 17,500 DECA members from around the globe. The United States and Canada make up the largest percentage; other countries are also represented. Each competitive event area has 200 top performers from around the world. While we didn’t have any finalists this year, the students felt good about their performance. We will find out in the next few weeks if any of them made ‘Competency Level’ in their event—top 25%; we anticipate some students achieved this level of success. DECA also offers industry certifications in the area of retail and finance; the student’s 100 question comprehensive test is used as the basis for this. Lucy Sumner, 11th grader, was a voting delegate for Pennsylvania and

also assisted Donald LeCompte – a Senior DECA member from East Stroudsburg High School—as he campaigned for and won the position of DECA Executive President for the 2016-2017 school year. Donald was the PA DECA state president this school year. Lucy Sumner and Cameron Cancelliere will both be PA DECA officers next year and attend a summer training workshop in Hershey. In addition to the competition, students heard from two keynote speakers from Marriott International; Melissa Froehlich Flood, Vice President of Government Affairs and Erika L. Alexander, Chief Lodging
