5. PUBLIC COMMENTS

The Merced College basketball team is doing very well.

6. REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES A. Curriculum Committee – Lisa Diaz/Julie Clark

Objectives are required by title 5. Will be talking about mirrored courses at the next meeting. AP 4021 Item 6 states that the narrative for new programs needs to go through the curriculum committee before changes are made in eLumen. If a certificate is 16 units or more, it now needs to be approved by the Chancellor’s Office. The Curriculum Committee liked the idea of having a Curriculum Chair Elect.

B. PROAC/IPRSLOAC – Edward Modafferi

The next meeting is tomorrow and will be going over some of the final charges of the committee and some training for the CATs on mapping courses.

C. FLEX – Mai Meidinger

The committee is checking plans that are being submitted. Will be working on the August FLEX workshops; send any ideas to the committee members.

D. Student Success – Carl Estrella

Reminder that Smart Thinking is an online tutorial for students. A tutorial button is included in the roster and when selected, the student gets notified and offered help.

E. Guided Pathways Steering Committee – Dee Sigismond

Working on program mapping.

F. AB 705 Taskforce – Caroline Dawson English and Math pathways have been revamped and will be posted on the

public facing website soon. There are some issues with the registration system and the support courses but this is being worked on.

G. Facilities Master Plan 2019-2029 Task Force – Bryan Donnelly/Ivan Navarro

The committee is getting close to finalizing the plan and it will be going to the Board at the May meeting.

7. SENATE PRESIDENT’S REPORT – Julie Clark The next Board meeting is March 26, 2019. Part time will be honored at the March

28, 2019 Senate meeting and at the April 9, 2019 Board meeting. Tenured faculty will be honored at the March 26, 2019 Board meeting.

Liaison Officer. Discussion occurred about the benefits of OER.

b. Improving Online CTE Pathways Grant Program – Julie Clark https://cvc.edu/pathwaysgrant/ The grant is mainly about improving our CTE programs and helping make more

of them online. Julie reviewed the main items on the letter of intent.

The District grants the degrees of Associate of Science for Transfer (AS-T), Associate of Arts for Transfer (AA-T), Associate of

Arts, and Associate of Science to those students who have completed the subject requirements for graduation and who have

maintained a degree applicable grade point average of 2.0 average in subjects attempted. Students must also complete the

general education, residency, and competency requirements set forth in Title 5 regulations.

Students may be awarded a Certificate of Achievement upon successful completion of courses of study or curriculum for which

the District offers a this certificate. The District has designed certificate programs to upgrade and develop occupational and

vocational proficiency.

Students may be awarded a Certificate of Proficiency upon successful completions of courses of study or curriculum forwhich the district offers this certificate. The District has designated these certificate programs to upgrade and developoccupational and vocational proficiency. Certificates of Proficiency are locally awarded and are not Chancellorapproved.

The Superintendent/President shall establish procedures to determine degree and certificate requirements and to assure that

graduation requirements are published in the District’s catalog and included in other resources that are convenient for students.

For the Associate of Arts (AA) and Associate of Science (AS) Degree:

Student must demonstrate competence in reading, in written expression, and in mathematics.1.

The student must satisfactorily complete at least 60 semester units or 90 quarter units of college work.2.

A definition of “college work” that provides that courses acceptable toward the associate degree include those that

have been properly approved pursuant to Title 5, Section 55002(a), or, if completed at other than a California

community college, would reasonably be expected to meet the standards of that section.

The work must include the college’s general education/breadth requirements and at least 18 semester units or 27 quarter

units in a major listed in the Community Colleges “Taxonomy of Programs.”

3.

Effective for all students admitted to a community college in Fall 2009 and thereafter, all courses that count towards the

associate degree area of emphasis must be “satisfactorily completed” with grades A, B, C, or P (pass). All degree

requirements, including general education, must be completed with an overall a degree applicable grade point average of

2.0 or better.

4.

The work must include at least 12 semester units or 18 quarter units of study in residence; exceptions to the residence

requirement can be made by the Board when an injustice or undue hardship would result.

5.

Students may petition to have noncredit courses counted toward the satisfaction of requirements for an associate degree.6.

Ethnic studies must be offered.7.

District policies and procedures regarding general education and degree requirements are published in the college catalog

and are on file with the State Chancellor’s Office.

8.

For the Associate of Arts for Transfer (AA-T) and Associate of Science for Transfer (AS-T) Degree:

State University General Education Breadth Requirements (CSU-GE).2.

A minimum of 18 semester units or 27 quarter units in a major or area of emphasis, as determined by the community

All courses that count towards the major or area of emphasis must be “satisfactorily completed” with grades A, B, or C.C orP.

For Certificate of Proficiency:

A student must successfully complete a course of study as established by the District. These certificates are notChancellor’s office approved, awarded at the District level, and may not be listed on the students transcript.

The Certificate of Proficiency shall be designed to demonstrate that the student has completed coursework anddeveloped capabilities related to make a successful transition to an entry-level position in the work force.

and other grade recording practices provided for by statute.

A - Excellent (Grade Point = 4)

B - Good (Grade Point = 3)

C - Satisfactory (Grade Point = 2)

FW- Unofficial withdrawal (Grade Point = 0)

P - Passing (At least satisfactory - units awarded not counted in GPA)

SP - Satisfactory Progress towards completion of the course (Used for noncredit courses only and is not supplanted by

NOTE: The FW symbol is assigned by the faculty member of record to a student who has both ceased participating in a course

after the last day to officially withdraw from the course without having achieved a final passing grade and who has not received

district authorization to withdraw from the course under extenuating circumstances.

Grading Scale Non-Evaluative Symbols

“I” Incomplete:

Incomplete academic work for unforeseeable emergency and justifiable reasons at the end of a term. Conditions for removal of “I”:

There shall be a written record completed by the instructor which contains the conditions for removal of the “I” and a grade to be

assigned after one semester in the event the conditions for removal are not completed by the student. If the conditions are

completed within the one semester allowed, a final grade shall be assigned when the work is evaluated. A copy of the written

record must be given to the student and a copy must be filed with the Registrar. The “I” symbol shall not be used in calculating units

attempted nor for grade points. A student may petition for a time extension due to unusual circumstances.

"IP" In Progress:

The “IP” symbol denotes that the class extends beyond the normal end of the academic term. It indicates that work is “In Progress”

but that assignment of a substantive grade must await completion of the class. The “IP” must remain on the student’s permanent

record to satisfy enrollment documentation. The appropriate evaluative grade and unit credit shall be assigned and appear on the

student’s record for the term in which the course is completed. The “IP” shall not be used in calculating GPA. grade pointaverages. If a student enrolled in an open-entry, open-exit course is assigned an “IP” and does not re-enroll in that courseduring the subsequent term, the appropriate faculty will assign an evaluation symbol (grade) on the student’s permanentrecord for the course.

"RD" Report Delayed:

The “RD” symbol may be assigned by the Registrar only. It is to be used when there is a delay in reporting the grade of a student

due to circumstances beyond the control of the student. It is a temporary notation to be replaced by a permanent symbol as soon

as possible “RD” shall not be used in calculating GPA.

"W" Withdrawal:

The “W” symbol may be used to denote withdrawal in accordance with the requirements of Title 5 Section 55024.

“MW” Military Withdrawal:

The “MW” symbol may be used to denote military withdrawal in accordance with Title 5 Section 55024.

"EW" Excused Withdrawal:

The "EW" symbol may be used to denote withdrawal in accordance with Title 5 Section 55024.
