1. Theory Subjects(100) have components: IE(40) = CIE-I(7) + MSEB(15) + CIE-II(7) +

Assignment(6) + Att.& Conduct(5) and ESE(60).

CGPA Equivalent Division CGPA ≥ 8.25 Pass in First Division with Distinction (for all UG and PG

RULES Page 28

2. If a student has back in a particular theory subject

(a) his sum of - CIE-I, CIE-II, Assignment, Att.& Conduct components of his main

attempt; carrying a weightage of 25 will freeze in the name of OMB.

(b) He will give ESE back component in the back examinations of the University which

has a weightage of 60.

(c) His MSEB component will be=25% of the marks obtd. in ESE answer book, given in

point (b).

(d) His IE component now becomes = OMB + MSEB

(e) Thus total marks obtained by the student in that subject = IE (in point (d)) + ESE (in

point (b)).

b) Practical Back

1. Practical Subjects(100) have components: IE(60)=CIE-I(20) + MSE(20) + CIE-II(20)

and ESE(40).

2. If a student has back in a particular practical subject than:

(a) His average of - CIE-I and CIE-II marks (of main attempt) now carrying a weight age

of 20 marks of his main attempt will freeze in the name of CIE-IB.

(b) He has to prepare a new lab record for his practical Back exam – number of

experiments/sheets/assignments to be decided by the particular school/department. It

will carry a weightage of 20 marks and will be named CIE-IIB.

(c) He will give ESE back component in the back examinations of the University which

has a weightage of 40.

(d) His MSEB component will be 50% of the marks obtained in ESE (given in point c)

(e) His IE component now becomes = CIE-IB + CIE-IIB + MSEB.

(f) Thus total marks obtained by the student in that subject = IE(in point (e) + ESE (in

point (c).

(II) IE Component for Back Attempt-II Onwards

1. From Attempt-II onwards the previously obtained marks in IE component stands

cancelled and ‘5’ marks are awarded to the student under this component as a bonus.

2. The student has to appear in ESE Back Examination of the said subject.

3. A ceiling of 60% of maximum marks of ESE component is set on each theory and

practical subject.

[POORNIMA UNIVERSITY/ACADEMIC REGULATION] 2012

RULES Page 29

4. If the marks obtained in ESE component of said subject do not exceed this ceiling than

these Original marks obtained are awarded to the student under ESE Component.

5. If the marks obtained in ESE component of said subject exceed this ceiling than Marks

awarded to the student under ESE Component will be Ceiling Marks + (Exceeding

marks)/2.

6. The awarded marks in the ESE component are proportionately reduced to obtain the

marks under IE Component.
