Qualification requirements

Other than in exceptional circumstances, promotion requires a doctoral degree

An exceptional circumstance is when a doctoral degree is not the discipline norm and will require evidence of significant expertise, standing and research or scholarship within the discipline

Conferral of a doctoral degree must be prior to the closing date of applications

If you do not hold a doctoral degree, you must make a case for equivalence and the HOS and PVC must support your case

Exception: Staff appointed to a Teaching Focussed Clinical/Professional role

…selecting weightings

Weight your contributions based on your contributions to the criteria and the extent to which these align with the University’s strategic plan

Refer to your line manager for your agreed workload allocation Non-standard weightings, in exceptional circumstances, a staff member

with agreed non-standard duties may select a weighting outside the above ranges

Making a case for promotion

Addressing the criteria Evidence of a sustained record of overall high performance at the current

level as outlined in CEAP Highlight evidence since your appointment or promotion to your current

level – focus on achievements, contributions and impact If you were previously unsuccessful for promotion, you must highlight

your achievements since your last application If you are applying for level E, you must address ‘how you envisage

yourself contributing to the University as a Professor’ You may use different aspects of an activity in different criteria, but

cannot use the same activity as evidence in more than one criterion Be clear, concise and coherent – use headings and order your evidence

logically

Making a case for promotion

Achievement relative to opportunity Acknowledging relevant personal circumstances, part-time employment and

extended leave in your application will enable the UAPC to assess your achievement relative to opportunity

Example – extended leave + part-time employment:

This staff member has worked the equivalent of just over a year full-time in the past 3 years

Period (past 3 years) Fractional appointments and extended leave

Months worked

25 Aug 2011 – 31 Aug 2012 Parental leave 0 x 12 = 0

1 Sep 2012 – 28 Feb 2013 0.2 fractional appointment 0.2 x 6 = 1.2

1 Mar 2013 – 1 Mar 2014 0.5 fractional appointment 0.5 x 12 = 6

2 Mar 2014 – 1 Sep 2014 Full-time appointment 1.0 x 6 = 6

Total: 13.2 mths worked / 36 mths
