Academic and Professional Letter

Dear Parents and Students,

My name is Joseph Overman and the reason that I am writing to you today is because the time is coming for your child to decide what college they are going to attend. This is a huge decision for both you and your son or daughter. I am here to to offer a few tips and advice for you and your child based on my personal experiences and research that I have done.

The first piece of advice that I have to offer is that every college has is different and unique traits just like the students who attend them. When looking at a school, try to figure out what these traits are and how you would fit in there. Consider the size, location, atmosphere and demographics when deciding where you want to go to college. When I was deciding on where to go to college the reason that I chose UNC Charlotte is because it was closer to home than NC State and that was the deciding factor for me.

The second piece of advice which is very important is that you don't count out public state colleges. The advantages of public schools is that they are less expensive, they offer a wider ranger of degrees, and some of them are just as good, or even better than private colleges. To some public colleges are not as good as private ones but that is simply not true. In fact there is no real difference in the likelihood of getting a job after graduation between public and private university graduates. Which means that a lot of money is saved in the process. In the end you should chose to go to college where you want to and where you fit in because that is where you will be happiest and most successful.

Sincerely,

Joseph Overman
