find myself completely involved in the process of making a statue in the
most traditional way. I believe that our deepest needs and emotions do
not change through time: thus a work of art that was made in the past
and had touched people years ago is able communicate feelings and ideas
upon us today. My use of the body is to expose the human condition. The
way it is composed can be a carrier of meaning and a reflection of our
physiology.
I invite people of all ages and of all states of mind to come and work
towards finding ways of expression. I invite you to spend two hours a
week of creative playing with clay. I will teach you how to work with this
magical, simple and most earthly material in order to give form to it and
make it breathe.

COOKING 101
Survival Skills for Life(a class for high school students)
Wednesday afternoons, 3:45 5:30 p.m.
College is about budgeting. Sometimes you can't eat out or in the
cafeteria any longer. Ever wanted to learn how to make basic meals like
delicious eggs or a Spaghetti Bolognese? Did you ever want to cook
something for friends and family but didn't know the first thing about the
kitchen? Some of you may have a hidden talent that has yet to be
discovered. Some of the greatest chefs in the world have the greatest
salaries. The best place to start is at the beginning, in Cooking 101 withTania.
We will begin with the bare minimum. No oven required. Each student will
need:
A plug-in, two-eyed, countertop hot plate, (cheap and available at your
local supermarket)
a pot,

a pan,
a spatula,
a whisk,
a wooden spoon,
a cutting board,
and two knives.
All supplies you can find in your own home.
This course is designed to teach you how to cook with the most staple
ingredients. Classes will be devoted to technique and tutorials, from
finding the best ingredients at the market to making a delicious dish,
whether it be sweet or savory. Come and learn one of the most important
lessons you could use in your life: how to cook so you can eat well. It's
useful for college, camping, parties, simple meals; and it's just plain fun.
This will be a 10-12 week course, once a week after-school. We will make
all sorts of eggs, pasta dishes, rice, stir-fry, no bake cakes, soups, salads, and sandwiches just to name a few. Any students from 8th grade to 12th
grade may apply.
I am Tania Tanas ([email protected]) . I am an ACS graduate ('96). I
took a cooking class when I was eleven years old and I've been cooking
ever since. I cook and bake because I love it. I always challenge myself to
learn more about the art of cooking and I would like to share what I've
learned so far with you. Perhaps in the process some students will realize
their passion for cooking too. For those who don't have a passion for the
kitchen, at least, some soup and rice to keep the stomach from rumbling.
Let the life lessons begin!!!
