Outreach Program via Book Bus.

Book Exhibition on "Educational Fair 2070- Mid-WesternOn 2013, from December 13 to December 22American Corner Surkhet Participated in"Educational Fair 2070- Midwestern" for Book andBook Bus Exhibition. On the exhibition we dis-played verities of books, American Posters, Maga-zines, English movies and gave more and moreinformation about English history, culture andlanguage. Also we demonstrated e-book kin-dle and distributed English book, magazineand bookmakers to the students and visitors.

During the Exhibition the main attractive thingwas our Book Bus. Many of the visitors wereso amazed to know this bus. By this exhibi-tion we gave more information of sevenAmerican corner located in Nepal includingAmerican Library, Kathmandu— at Birendrana-gar surkhet.

On Wednesday, 18 December 2013, Ameri-can Corner Surkhet visit six different schoolsof Surkhet valley with book bus. During thevisiting program, many students were at-tracted towards this bus. In this program wedisplay verities of books, journals and gavemore information about book bus and clari-fied its purpose. Also we demonstrated e-book kindle toward them.

At the program we donated packets of booksto each school and gave more information ofseven American Corner located in Nepalincluding American Library, Kathmandu. —at Birendranagar surkhet.

On December 25, 2013, American CornerSurkhet Celebrate Christmas Day by organ-ized various program at AC, around 50 stu-

dents and teachersfrom different schoolparticipated in this pro-gram. During the pro-gram participant gotmore fun by watchingmovie, singing a Christ-mas song and playingtrivia quiz. At the pro-gram all participants gotChristmas gift andChristmas cake.

On16, January 2014, AmericanCorner Surkhet celebrate NationalEarthquake Day by organized aspecial awareness program aboutearthquake. During the programMr. Yagya Prasad Bhattrai, Lec-turer of Mid-West University(M.U.) created public awarenesson disaster risk reduction aboutearthquake. We also distributebook and printed materials to thestudents about earthquake.

9th March 2014, Surkhet , Students from SOS's Surkhet came to American Corner Surkhet for their project work. On their project worksthey had to come American corner surkhet and researched the questions' answer given by their class teacher about America.

During their visit at corner AC-staff helped them to find out their questions' answer from the library and e-library USA. After finishing theirproject work he introduced them to AC3 Club and its member. After that, all children got-together at assembly hall of AC and discussed ingroup how to learn and utilize resources available at AC. During their assembly the president of District Child Forum Mr. Tilak Kandel alsofacilitated them about Child right, child abuse and child marry via picture display.

Through this project work the students of SOS and AC3 members were able to answer the following questions.

1. Name of all the presidents of America.

2. Any ten names of most famous American literary writers.

3. Any ten most famous places of America.

4. Any five most famous Universities of America.

5. Any five most famous American Scientists.

Also they got an opportunity to learn more things via this project work like as ;

1. What is library and what is the important of library? ·

2. What is team work and How to manage team in work? ·

3. What are child abuse, child right and social problems?

ThirtySeven (37) English teachers from differentschools and colleges of Surkhet districtwere took part in the training.

A Day Workshop on ‘TeachingLearning Strategies’ was accom-plished on May 17, 2014. The pro-

gram was conducted with the collaboration of Usha BalVatika and American Corner Surkhe. This program wasattended by 30 teachers of the respective school. Of vari-ous strategies of teaching learning, project based learn-ing along with objective of education and teaching wasmainly discussed. Moreover, how both teachers andstudents can be benefited from American Corner Surk-het and the website www.americanenglish.state.gov wasd e a l t a s o u t r e a c h p r o g r a m .

The program organized at Hotle Valley View and wasfacilitated by the executive member of AC Surkhet, Mr.

Mukunda Kumar Giri and chaired by Mr. Sagar Bhusal, chairperson of SMC ofUsha Bal Vatika Surkhet.

On 26th July 2014, American Cor-ner Surkhet organize an OutreachProgram about Women Empower-ment in SOS valley Surkhet. Thekey speaker of the program, Ms.Hannah Marqusee (Peace CorpsVolunteer), give a fruitful presenta-tion about the girl education andshe briefly introduced the docu-mentary video about the womenempowerment. In the programaltogether 55 girls from class 9, 11& 12 took participate along threevolunteer teachers from the sameschool. This program was divided

into three sections. In the first sec-tion we screened the video docu-mentary on title "Girl Rising" aboutwomen empowerment. The secondsection was group discussion; wedivided the students into fourgroups and give them related ques-tions about the video. In the lastsection of the program the leaderof each group gives a speech aboutthe video and about how can wechange the world through girl'seducation.

During the program AC-Staff Mr.Hirdesh Kumar K.C also give a

On 27th July 2014, American CornerSurkhet organized a "Book Discussion "program at American corner Surkhet. Thetitle of the book is "The Old Man and TheSea" by Earnest Hemingway. In the pro-gram altogether 8 English teacher tookparticipate along Corner staff. Last weekcorner provide the same book to eachparticipant for the discussion. The objec-tive of the program was to build a readinghabit and to enhance the summarizingcapability in English language.

The program starts with giving introductionto each other. Different participants sum-marize the story and the theme of thebook in different ways. Some of partici-

pants also criticize each other views. As a wholethe program was very successful and the partici-pant were so excited to join such a discussion pro-gram again and again and they were very thankfulto American Library , Kathmandu to provide bookand suggest American Corner to organize such aprogram again in future.

On Saturday August 16, 2014 American Corner Surkhet Organized a Speech programon "Group Discussion about flood of Surkhet". The program was conducted with thecollaboration of AC-Surkhet Child Club and American corner was attended by 25 stu-dent age group 12 -17. In the program students share their views & thought about lastnight flood which they nearly experienced in their community how the flood has cameand the destroy the whole community beside the Itram Khola and KhorkeKhola. During the program, AC-Staff convey the students to help the victim peoplewhose houses were swept away by flood and landslide. At the end of the program allparticipated gave a deep sympathy to victim people and promise to help them.

On Friday, August 15, 2014, last night the Surkhet district experienced heavy rainfalland flooding. According to the news update around 300 hundreds homes swept away,129 missing, 29 confirmed dead. Power has been shut down. Roads and bridge arebroken.

On 31th August 2014 American Corner Surkhet Celebrate 7th Library Day 2071 by organized a Book Dona-tion Program at AC-Surkhet.
