AAS 490. African American Studies Internship. 3 Hours.On campus and off cmapus training positions in filed utilizing crossdisciplinary skills, with some positions offering external funding. Studentsshould contact the Program Director for listings of available positions andapplication procedures. May be counted as elective only. Preq: Junioror senior standing as African American Studies major and approval ofapplication. May be repeated once for credit. 3 hours. Permission of theProgram Director is needed.

AAS 493. Capstone Seminar. 3 Hours.Specific topics vary...The course will provide an opportunity for studentsto reflect upon and to use the knowledge, skills and dispositionsdeveloped in previous African American Studies coursework. This courseor AAS 495 required of all AAS majors. AAS 493 is ideally taken in thefinal undergraduate semester. Preq: 9 hours AAS coursework at the 400level and permission of the Program Director. 3 hours.

AAS 495. Individual Studies. 3 Hours.Specific topics vary. An individually designed course for semi-independent research or guided readings in areas and subjects thatsynthesize the African American Studies core areas. The coursewill provide an opportunity for students to reflect upon and use theknowledge, skills, and disposition developed in previous African AmericanStudies coursework. This course or AAS 493 required of all AAS majors.AAS 495 is ideally taken in the final undergradute semster. ConsultProgram Director for procedure to apply for this course.

AAS 497. Honors Seminar. 3 Hours.Students are taught the basics of research, statistical analysis andtechniques of making a formal presentation of research. Under theguidance of the Program Director and faculty mentor, students arerequired to develop an honors research project.Prerequisites: AAS 200 [Min Grade: D] and AAS 320 [Min Grade: D] andAAS 325 [Min Grade: D]

AAS 498. Honors Project. 3 Hours.Under the guidance of the faculty mentor, students complete the projectand make a formal presentation of the research.Prerequisites: AAS 497 [Min Grade: D]

AC-Accounting CoursesAC 200. Principles of Accounting I. 3 Hours.Basic concepts with focus on how accounting events affect financialstatements. Emphasizes preparation, communication and use ofexternal financial reports, accrual versus cash, receivables, payables,inventory, recording long-term operational assets, long-term liabilities,stockholders¿ equity, recording procedures, and financial statementanalysis dealing with the benefits and risks associated with thatinformation. Quantitative Literacy is a significant component of this course(QEP).

AC 201. Principles of Accounting II. 3 Hours.Basic concepts associated with internal reporting. Use of relevantinformation for planning, control, and decision making. Cost behavior,cost allocation, product costing, budgeting, responsibility accounting, andcapital budgeting.Prerequisites: AC 200 [Min Grade: C]

AC 300. Financial Accounting I. 3 Hours.Accounting cycle, environment of financial accounting, conceptualframework of financial accounting, financial statements, time value ofmoney, cash, receivables and valuation of inventories.Prerequisites: (AC 201 [Min Grade: C] and AC 304 [Min Grade: C](Canbe taken Concurrently) and GPAT and GPAO 2.00) or (AC 201 [MinGrade: C] and AC 304 [Min Grade: C](Can be taken Concurrently) andGPAU 2.00 and GPAO 2.00)

AC 304. Accounting Information Systems. 3 Hours.Transaction processing cycles of accounting system; internal control,development, and control of information systems; emerging developmentof information technology.Prerequisites: (AC 201 [Min Grade: C] and GPAT and GPAO 2.00) or(AC 201 [Min Grade: C] and GPAU 2.00 and GPAO 2.00)

AC 310. Financial Accounting II. 3 Hours.Continuation of AC 300. Inventories, plant assets, intangible assets,current liabilities, long-term debt and stockholders’ equity.Prerequisites: (AC 300 [Min Grade: C] and AC 304 [Min Grade: C] andGPAT and GPAO 2.00) or (AC 300 [Min Grade: C] and AC 304 [MinGrade: C] and GPAU 2.00 and GPAO 2.00)

AC 320. Financial Accounting Survey. 3 Hours.Accounting cycle, financial accounting theory, financial statements,cash and receivables, inventories, plant assets, intangible assets,current liabilities, long-term debt, stockholders’ equity, investments,income taxes, pension benefits, leases, error correction, and reportingof accounting changes and earnings per share. Not open to accountingmajors.Prerequisites: (AC 201 [Min Grade: C] and GPAT and GPAO 2.00) or(AC 201 [Min Grade: C] and GPAU 2.00 and GPAO 2.00)

AC 401. Cost Accounting. 3 Hours.Basic theory and procedures involving cost determination, analysis,and control. Cost allocations, application of overhead, budgeting,standard costs, job order, process and by-product costing, spoilage, andquantitative techniques. AC 413. Internal Auditing. 3 Hours.Theory and practice of internal auditing and application of internalauditing principles and techniques to selected audit problems.Prerequisites: (AC 300 [Min Grade: C] and AC 304 [Min Grade: C] andGPAT and GPAO 2.00) or (AC 300 [Min Grade: C] and AC 304 [MinGrade: C] and GPAU 2.00 and GPAO 2.00)
