Foreword

The Fourth International PhD Symposium in Engineering is organized in2008 because it is thought that PhD students need a special forum in addi-tion to their PhD programmes to present the results of their ongoing research. On the other hand the results should be discussed collecting proposals howto continue. The First, Second and Third International PhD Symposia wereorganized in 2005, 2006, 2007 and it will be important to continue this tradi-tion.

Objectives of the PhD Symposium

• to provide a forum for PhD students in engineering to present theprogress of their work,

• to discuss the results of the ongoing PhD studies in order to supportthe future activity,

• to give the opportunity for PhD students to establish contact for inter-national communication,

• to compare PhD studies in various countries.

System of this symposium is to have oral presentations by the PhD stu-dents themselves, which are immediately followed by discussions that arescheduled in the programme. Main results of the studies are summarized inthe Pollack Periodica (An International Journal for Engineering and Infor-mation Sciences) published by Akademiai Kiado.

All of the abstracts and papers will be revied by the members of the Sci-entific Committee.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I would like to express the thanksto the University of Pecs, Pollack Mihaly Faculty of Engineering for hospi-tality of the Symposium.

Prof. Miklos Ivanyi
