Letters to the Editor
Dear Editor:
I would like to write a letter in response to Sonya Bullock's historical essay about the com-munity of Quail that appeared in the May 1. 1986 editon of the Mt. Vernon Signal. Though the essay shows fine research and effort, some of the information
the article is

and I grew up in Quail The grist mill that was
described in the article could not have been originally located at Charlie Hasty 's farm as there was no s t ream there to power the mill
, However, my uncle. Ben Albright, owned a-grisr. mill-in' Quail for a time. It sat approximately where Rt 70 passes through near the house, and school . He was badly burned in a accident at the mill and I do not bel ieve it was operated after that .
The store and post office were owned and run by John and Emily Proctor They were located on the
corner opposite the house that I believe is owned today by the Whittaker family The next owners of the s tore were Dallas - a n d Man ic Dillingham, .They later built a new store across the road from the house I am not sure who the "Gilfrets." family mentioned is Perhaps it is the Gifford family
The article points out that t he Providence Church was built in 1924 Though I do not know when it was actually built. I d o k n o w it was there long before 1924 My mother died in November. 1910. and- her funeral was held at the Providence Church'

Country Band concert ' The credit for this event was not given fairly. When the band gave their thanks i hey forgot or did not know who really did the work The pefson most reponsible for the event was Mrs. Ruth Bussell, owner of the Brodhead Cafe
Mrs Bussell. not only kept up their signs, she also ordered the needed supplies from her distri-butors In addition to this* she donated the coffee, creamer , and sugar Furthermore, she prepared the barbecue for sandwiches and made the chili for the chili dogs Mrs Bussell 's participation did not end there - she was up until after midnight cleaning* the uten-sils both the night the concert was rained ojit and also the night it took' place •
beh ind ' the scenes. People should always find out who does the actual work before giving credit.
Just hanging up signs is not enough.
Thank you Mrs. Bussell for your support and endless contribu-tions. It could not have been dotie without you
Sincerely. Sandra Wren
