Ozone Simplicity for Above Ground Pools
A Big Dipper Ozone Installation Guide for Above Ground Pools.
Enjoy the benefits of ozone safety and simplicity to make your family’s
backyard pool experience the best it can be.
Why DEL Ozone? Because it works better.• Simplified sanitation
– Once installed, ozone systems purify your pool with little further attention
• Ozone kills dangerous microorganisms – Kill “bugs” (including crypto) on contact
• Ozone is one of nature’s most powerful oxidizers– Eliminates human fluids, cosmetics, lotions and
other organics (chlorine is a poor oxidizer)• Ozone leaves behind ordinary oxygen, which
helps your pool sparkle.• Ozone lets you reduce chlorine use up to 80%
– Salt chorine is still just chlorine, only corrosive
Your Big Dipper Installation
The big picture:
Here’s how simple it is.
The ozonator (on the left) feeds ozone (through the green tube) to the venturi injector installed on the return line. The green tube is looped above the water level.
With power synchronized to the pump cycle, the ozonator automatically sanitizes the water flowing through the circulation system.
Ozone Installation – Preview
• Prepare the pool: Make sure the water is clean and balanced, and that all systems are operating properly
• Be safe:– Use a qualified electrician for permanent
connections– Use a grounded outlet for power source– Follow details in the installation guide
• Review all the instructions before you begin installation
Big Dipper is Wall Mountedand Electrically Powered
The Big Dipper should be wall or post mounted outdoors about 5 feet from the pool.
The main power should be
connected through the pool
pump so the ozone
generator runs at the same
time as the pump. This
should be on a GFCI
circuit.
Plumbing the Big Dipper
Some Key Points:
The ozone supply tubing is looped above the level of the injector and above the level of the pool water.
The check valve is installed in the proper direction to block backflow but NOT ozone flow (see the directional arrow on the valve).
The ozone injector is installed on the return line just before the pool inlet, and after the filter has removed large particulates.
The Big Dipper’s Mazzei Venturi Injector Assembly
Assembly of the Venturi Injector
This is a critical piece of the ozone sanitation system because it creates the vacuum that draws ozone into the water and dissolves it.
Make sure it is installed with the arrow in the direction of the water flow.
Test to make sure the ozone inline is clear and functional.
Maintain the OzonatorThe Big Dipper will supply about 15,000 hours of reliable
service. This is about 5 years, assuming 8 hours per day
of pump operations.
Regular maintenance will ensure the long life of the ozone
system. Consult the installation guide for routine
maintenance guides.
