TRANSCRIPT

About the SeminarThe Indian online retail space has entered an exciting phase, growing at an

annual rate of around 65% in the last two years. Most of the players in online retail have their genesis in start-ups, backed by venture capital or private equity funds. According to a recent study by CRISIL, the Indian online market is expected to touch Rs. 60,000 cr by 2016. The top three players in the horizontal retail space – Flipkart, Snapdeal and Amazon are expected to exceed Rs. 24,000 cr in sales this year. We are clearly witnessing the growth spurt of a new industry which is at a juncture where rules are being defined, future scenarios constantly re-visited and businesses becoming increasingly convinced about the tremendous potential of online retail.

The seminar is intended to provide a deeper understanding of the dramatic changes we are witnessing in India’s retail sector, by enabling the academic community to interact with professionals in the field. The opportunity to engage with young entrepreneurs of successful start-ups in the online retail space should serve as an inspiration to students who may aspire to do so in the future.
