Welcome to Albright College. Founded in 1856, Albright celebrates more than a century and a half of a rich academic heritage in the liberal arts and a

dynamic, welcoming and collaborative campus community.

With 1,660 traditional undergraduate students, Albright is able to offer a 13:1 student/faculty ratio, close student/faculty relationships and an em-

phasis on the whole individual. Classes are small and interactive, giving students extraordinary opportunities to get to know their professors and to engage in

hands-on research and creative opportunities with them.

As a national liberal arts college, Albright offers 50 programs of undergraduate study, ranging from accounting to theatre, that are grounded in a com-

mon curriculum instilling lifelong skills in communication, critical thinking, adaptability and a love of learning. Albright is also a national leader in interdisciplinary

education, offering a broad range of interdisciplinary programs including digital media, information systems, optics, Latin American studies, psychobiology, bio-

chemistry and environmental studies, as well as combined concentrations such as music/business. More than half of all students at Albright opt for combined or

interdisciplinary majors—and still graduate in four years. In fact, in any given year, students create more than 200 different combinations of majors.

In addition, Albright’s long tradition of excellence in the natural sciences and pre-professional programs continues to prepare graduates for medical,

dental and veterinary school.

An Albright liberal arts education—the foundation for which lies in a course of study that combines breadth and depth—helps students to expand their

horizons, discover new perspectives and connect the dots among disciplines. While it lays the foundation for a future career, it also produces well-rounded,

well-informed graduates with a wide skill set, graduates who will thrive in today’s ever-changing world.

on campus.

Community service is also embedded in the Albright culture. Albright’s Volunteer Center serves as a clearinghouse for community service projects

and connects students and agencies. Each year, Albright students log some 15,000 volunteer hours.

Students at Albright also have access to outstanding teaching, research, social, cultural and religious resources and facilities.

The F. Wilbur Gingrich Library contains more than 240,000 books, periodicals, records and audio/visual materials, and has a knowledgeable staff

dedicated to serving students. The Center for the Arts houses the nationally recognized Freedman Gallery, devoted to contemporary art, and Wachovia The-

atre, a comfortable venue for theatrical performances and concerts. And the Experiential Learning and Career Development Center offers countless opportuni-

ties for collaborative faculty/student research, study abroad, internships and career development.

Last fall, Albright celebrated the grand opening of its new Science Center. This $34.5 million project

included construction of 41,635 square feet of new state-of-the-art labs and classrooms and complete renovation

of the historic 37,019-square-foot Merner-Pfeiffer Hall of Science, built in 1929 and expanded and renovated in

1965.

In the summer of 2009 the Albright College Athletic department signed with Internet Con-sulting Services to redesign their athletic website. After just a few short weeks, ICS pre-sented Albright with a top-notch website that truly shows what Lions athletics are all about.

The winningest coach in Albright men’s soccer history, head coach Pat Stanco will begin his eighth season with the Lions this fall.

Since taking over the program in 2005, Stanco has compiled a program-best 51 victories, and ledtheLionstotheirfirstconferencetournamentappearancein2007.HehasalsocoachedtwoCommonwealthConferenceRookiesoftheYear,fourfirst-teamall-conferenceselections,andsixsecondteamall-conferencehonorees.In2010,Stancobecamethefirstcoachinprogramhistoryto have a player earn NSCAA All-Region honors.

On the pitch, Stanco coached the program’s all-time career shutout leader in Wendell Hannaford ‘09, and in 2010 helped the Lions to their third winning record since the program’s inception. In his previous seven seasons, Stanco has recorded eight or more wins in a single year four times. The team’s 2007 runtotheconferencetournamentearnedthemafourthplacefinishintheconference standings.

Stanco is a native of Union, NJ, and was a four-year starter for Union High School. He earned multiple honors as a prep star, capped-off by being named Group 4 All-State as a senior. Stanco then went on to East Stroudsburg University, where he became a key member of the Warriors highly successful club.

In 1998 he earned Second-Team All-PSAC honors, setting the stage for a phenominal senior year in 1999. Stanco led the Warriors to an 18-3 record, a PSAC Championship, and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

He was named the PSAC Player of the Year, a Third-Team All-American after scoring 20 goals, including a streak of 11 consecutive games with at least one goal scored to set a new school record. Stanco finishiedhiscareerwith41goals.

The Albright College men’s soccer team has brought in 17 freshmen for the 2012 season, and will count on that deep, talented group, along with some experienced returners, as the Lions look to improve on last year’s disappointing 7-11 record.

“We need to make teams earn more of their chances this year,” said eighth-year head coach Pat Stanco. “We had to come from behind a lot last season and it often didn’t turn out in our favor.”

“Overall however, for a 7-11 team, we played some pretty strong soccer and were close to where we need to be to win more games this season,” he added.

The Lions have talent up top, but are waiting for news on striker Vitali Zaluha, who is currently out injured after leading the team with eight goals as a freshman.

Albright will feature good size on a re-tooled backline, but will be very young. Sophomore Austin Marich is a returning starter and will be called upon to lead a defense that will likely include several freshman starters. Rookies Storm Mathias and Matt Robinson are among the contenders for those spots.

Senior Ryan Barr brings experience in goal, while freshmen Austin Aldinger and David Oram have both impressed in preseason and will battle for the starting job.

“We need to work on improving every day, and get better as the year goes along,” said Stanco. “Our team will have more depth, which will make practices more intense and create a good positive environment for everyone to push each other throughout the season.”

MAC100

During 2012-13 the Middle Atlantic Conferences celebrate the MAC 100 to honor a century of intercollegiate competition as one of the oldest intercollegiate athletics associations in the United States.

Founded on December 10, 1912, the MAC has evolved into the only intercollegiate sports umbrella organization in the country thatincludestheMiddleAtlantic,Freedom, andCommonwealthConferences.ThefirstconferencecompetitionoccurredonMay

20,1913withatrack&fieldmeetatLafayetteCollege.Sincethen,57institutionshave competed in 25 sports and won 33 NCAA team championships. Currently 18 schools, spanning four states, have 6,448 student-athletes competing in 23 sports for 36 conference championships. As the MAC enters its second century, the presidents and athletic administrators have positioned the conference into the strongest, most cohesive structure since its founding.

“The MAC 100 is about more than just the past 100 years - it’s about the incredible people who have shaped the conference to what it is today” said Ken Andrews, MAC Executive Director.

The MAC Hall of Fame, an initiative of the MAC 100, is an honor to recognize student-athletes, coaches, administration, faculty, or staff from the Middle Atlantic Conferenc-es who have demonstrated success in athletics, academics, and in the community. Thirty-six individuals (22 athletes and 17 staff/administrators) were inducted into the Inaugural MAC Hall of Fame, representing 25 schools and 13 different sports.
