In 2004, About $30 billion was invested in renewable energy capacity and installations. An additional $4–5 billion in new plant and equipment was invested in 2004 by the solar PV manufacturing industry,At least several hundred million dollars was invested by the ethanol industry in new production plants.
These numbers compare to roughly 110–150 G$ invested annually in power generation worldwide.
Thus in 2004: 35 G$ spended for RE installations and industrial production plants
Martinot e.a. : „Renewables2005_GlobalStatusReport“, p.14
30 G$ : 9.5 G$ for wind power, 7 G$ for solar PV, 4.5 G$ for small hydro power, 5 G$ for geothermal and biomass power and heat.
4 G$ for solar hot water/heating,
In addition to these investments, an estimated
20–25 G$ is being invested in large hydropower annually.
RE Investment shares in 2004
