HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Alec’s great, great, great, great grandfather was a Civil War Soldier. He brought in documents about his grandfather, Abe and the Civil War.
![Page 3: ABE UNIT](https://reader036.vdocuments.site/reader036/viewer/2022062518/56814938550346895db67f8a/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
I created an Abe Lincoln Power pointPower point Show. We viewed it as a class, then they watched in individually.
The History Place on the Internet http://www.historyplace.com/lincoln/
![Page 4: ABE UNIT](https://reader036.vdocuments.site/reader036/viewer/2022062518/56814938550346895db67f8a/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
The class documented information we found on Abe. I had former
children of mine came in and read the Abe Lincoln Books they created
the year before.
![Page 5: ABE UNIT](https://reader036.vdocuments.site/reader036/viewer/2022062518/56814938550346895db67f8a/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Language Skills (Nouns) We listed “THE PLACES” that Abe is associated with.
![Page 6: ABE UNIT](https://reader036.vdocuments.site/reader036/viewer/2022062518/56814938550346895db67f8a/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
One initial activity was a web about Abe’s childhood. We read a couple of books and then we listed facts about his
boyhood. Each child had to create an ABE WEB using any of the facts.
![Page 7: ABE UNIT](https://reader036.vdocuments.site/reader036/viewer/2022062518/56814938550346895db67f8a/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
One example of my Group Center – This one had the children labeling two maps. The students are labeling the North and South regions on their maps (1860) map. Then on a separate empty US map, they had to color the four places Lincoln lived
in his life.
• Centers are a part of my classroom.
![Page 8: ABE UNIT](https://reader036.vdocuments.site/reader036/viewer/2022062518/56814938550346895db67f8a/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
I usually have four groups or centers
1. Computer Group2. Seat work 3. Group Activity4. Guided Reading
![Page 9: ABE UNIT](https://reader036.vdocuments.site/reader036/viewer/2022062518/56814938550346895db67f8a/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
Sequence – Using Power PointPower Point photos of events in his life. Individually, the students had to place
these in the correct order.
![Page 10: ABE UNIT](https://reader036.vdocuments.site/reader036/viewer/2022062518/56814938550346895db67f8a/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Then we looked at his childhood.
Using KIDSPIRATION,KIDSPIRATION,
the children had to list “FACTS”
about his childhood. They
had to know their source.
![Page 11: ABE UNIT](https://reader036.vdocuments.site/reader036/viewer/2022062518/56814938550346895db67f8a/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Math Lesson – To demonstrate Lincoln’s 6 foot 4 inch height,
we measured the board with a
basketball player. We were learning about measuring with inch
rulers, so we converted Abe’s
height to 76 inches tall and marked how tall Abe was on the
cut out.
![Page 12: ABE UNIT](https://reader036.vdocuments.site/reader036/viewer/2022062518/56814938550346895db67f8a/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
Using the power pointpower point I created, I printed it putting two slides on one page. Then I made “ABE” guided reading books to read during
center time.
![Page 13: ABE UNIT](https://reader036.vdocuments.site/reader036/viewer/2022062518/56814938550346895db67f8a/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
As and ART Project, we used the “Community Construction Kit”“Community Construction Kit” CD and we
created a house that looked liked a log cabin. We printed it and they constructed
their log cabin.
![Page 14: ABE UNIT](https://reader036.vdocuments.site/reader036/viewer/2022062518/56814938550346895db67f8a/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
Another ART project was our ABE STAMPS. Using KID PIXKID PIX the students had to create ABE stamps they would
have liked to see designed.
![Page 15: ABE UNIT](https://reader036.vdocuments.site/reader036/viewer/2022062518/56814938550346895db67f8a/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
Then I took the original slides from myfrom my MS Power MS Power pointpoint Show and deleted my words. The students then Show and deleted my words. The students then
labeled each photo.labeled each photo.

One final project
included our
completed research paper.
(Microsoft Word Document)
