With all the hype around Jer-emy Lin as the first Asian Ameri-can NBA star, have you stopped to think about Filipinos in the media?

In the U.S., a comprehensive view of Filipinos in the mainstream me-dia and entertainment industries is missing and more representation is long overdue.

FilAmCreative and CSUF P.A.S.A. Kaibigan present a panel discus-sion and networkingmixer featur-ing Filipino professionals in the radio, film, television, music, media and other related industries. The

event will seek to build awareness-about the importance of creating more Filipino visibility, as well as establishing individuality as Filipi-no Americans apart from the broad “Asian Pacific American” category in entertainment and media.

This is the perfect chance to learn more about FilAm Creative, a com-munity organization that is dedi-cated to the advancement of Fili-pino Americans in entertainment and media, and collaboration op-portunities.

“Jordan Bautista, 3rd year from UCI KababayanI went to my first sportsfest last year, with Kababayan. I participated in the men’s 5v5 basketball. Even though our team didn’t get that far, I had a lot of fun. I really appreciated the great officiating and orga-nization of the whole event. I’m looking forward to playing this year again, but hopefully our practices will pay off a little bit better!Missy Alejandro, 4th year from UCI KababayanMy first sportsfest was two years ago, when I got a few teams to show up from my club. It was the first year kaba entered in the tournament in a few years, so I was very excited. It was good seeing all of my old high school friends and playing against them in the few sports that we were in. The whole event was a lot of fun.

Ryan Rosete, ‘09 Alumni from Cal Poly SLO Pilipino Cultural Exchange

Having gone to Sportsfest since ‘05, I’ve had the pleasure of playing alongside many old & young members of my club and watching the event evolve year after year. It is especially nice to see familiar faces from competing teams come back to play against us again. Overall

it is a great weekend to take a break from school, bond with your peers, and most importantly have fun. I’d like to thank Barkada for putting their blood, sweat, and tears into such a big event that uni-

fies those passionate about sports. Much appreciated.

Aldrin Dorado, 3rd year from CPP BarkadaA memory than I can recall from last year’s Sportsfest was being able to meet up with a few of my high school friends from Guam. It was fun to not only see them again, but also to compete against them in basketball and football. Sportsfest is a great way to meet some old friends and also new people.

Rachel Bicera, 5th year from CPP Barkada

Last year I remember getting sat on and get-ting a concussion. That was one of the craziest moments

during Sportsfest. I also remember all the injuries the girls got and how they were able to overcome them in order to win 3rd place from the double

overtime game for women’s football.

Mikey Brown, 3rd year from Cal Poly SLO Pilipino Cultural ExchangeIt’s always a great atmosphere coming down to Pamona each year. This is gonna be my 4th time competing at Sportsfest (3rd with PCE SLO) and I always look forward to coming back to meet new people and participate in some good competition. :)Kris Almario, 3rd year from Cal Poly SLO Pilipino Cultural ExchangeThe atmosphere was filled with sports adrenaline, the SoCal weather was typically amazing, and I had such a blast playing football with my friends!

Carlyn Cudiamat, 3rd year from CSUN Filipino American Student AssociationI have only been to Sportsfest once, but I had a GREAT time! I love the environment and all of the sports that go on at the same time. Being apart of any team at Sportsfest really is an experience because it is so loud and the energy really gets me pumped for the games. I am su-per excited for Sports-fest this year! Yay!
