Everett HoekstraPresident, Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health USA Inc.

Everett Hoekstra is President of Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health USA Inc. Since joining Boehringer Ingelheim in

1997, he has held a variety of leadership roles, mainly in finance at the company’s human pharmaceutical business. Prior to his current role, he served for several years as chief finan-cial officer of the U.S. animal health business.

A native of Iowa, Hoekstra spent 12 years early in his career as co-owner and business manager for a veterinary group in the Midwest. As part of that group, he helped build several successful veterinary agriculture businesses, including a swine biologics business (today part of Boehringer Ingelheim), a veterinary distribution company (today part of Animal Health International of the Patterson group of companies), and a bovine reproductive technol-ogy services company (Trans Ova Genetics).

Everett holds a BA in Business Administration and is a Licensed Certified Public Accountant.

Ken RotondoPresident, Mind Genomics Advisors

Dr. Ken Rotondo, a veterinarian, speaker, consultant and entrepreneur, has collaborated with a variety of groups

and organizations to optimize business and personal performance. Recognized as an expert in practice management and the dynamics of successful practices and businesses, he specializes in effective client communication, customer experience engineering, and consumer insights.

He has owned and operated five veterinary hospitals in New York, is a Past President of the New York State Veterinary Medical Society, and served on the Veterinary Futures Commission.

Ken has lectured throughout the United States, Canada and Europe on behavioral economics,

motivational and marketing analytics and applying machine learning principles to patient/client communication. Dr. Rotondo holds a DVM degree from Cornell University and an MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Carol McConnellVice President and Chief Veterinary Officer, Nationwide

Carol McConnell DVM, MBA is Vice President and Chief Veterinary Officer at Nationwide. In this role, she oversees

the company’s veterinary research and relations.

Her prior roles have included positions at ALZA Pharmaceuticals, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, and Priority Veterinary Management Consultants, where she provided consulting services to veterinarians around the country.

Dr. McConnell was a practicing veterinarian at Wilmington Animal Hospital in Delaware. She holds a BS from Cornell University, an MBA from Purdue University and a DVM degree from University of California, Davis.

Ashley BearSenior Program Officer, National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine

Dr. Ashley Bear is a Senior Program Officer with the Board on Higher Education and Workforce

at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. Before coming to the Academies, Dr. Bear was a Presidential Management Fellow with the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Division of Biological Infrastructure in the Directorate for Biological Sciences. During her fellowship years, Dr. Bear also worked as a Science Policy Officer for the State Department’s Office of the Science and Technology Adviser to the Secretary of State. Dr. Bear holds a ScB in Neuroscience from Brown University and a PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Yale University.
